(25,815 posts)I find it kind of funny how the original Revolution was strictly economic and "identity politics" a distraction (it's not good enough to say 'I'm a woman, vote for me' or 'I'm Hispanic, vote for me' and so on), but identity became weaponized as part of the weaponization of the word "progressive"and continues its damage. Since goals are the same and policies similar, attack character.
Like here, Schiff accused of trying to stop Porter because she's a woman. My favorite was when Nina Turner ran against Shontel Brown. Teh Establishment and supporters of Brown were accused of being terrified of Turner because she's a strong progressive woman of color. Um, it was pointed out, Brown is also a strong progressive woman of color. But once you're labeled "establishment" you can't be progressive, you're corrupt and beholden to Big Everything and terrified of progress and that's that.
When Kamala Harris ran for president I noticed she was referred to as a centrist or moderate or establishment in articles, but when I looked it up she was one of the most progressive senators with an impressive record of getting her bills passed in her short time in Congress. And now she's invisible. Once you're labeled... For what? A revolution against the Democratic Party, the progressive party? Sigh.
