Good grief. And since this apparently needs explaining. Here's the problem. It's always blazingly clear when people don't have a lot of friends or experience with other races or cultures, because they don't frame them as human beings. They're always framed as a bit better. Not like my terrible group. That other group is magical.
It's condescending and compensating.
There are good and bad people of every group. Some you love being around and working with. Some will make your day miserable.
But instead of seeing them as humans and treating them as humans, they get boxed into the groups with the wistful soft focus.
It's like . . . kind of revealing a lot in all this. People aren't seen as people. They're broken solely into their group and valued (or devalued) because of it.
This is not a good trait to possess. People shouldn't be high-fiving it. It's low-key patronizingly racist as hell.
