(116,496 posts)I know very well that rice is used in many cuisines (and as a very white person of northern European descent I have eaten a lot of it in many non-Asian forms), but it seems to me that leaving white rice off the list would have far more of an impact on Asian cuisine than on any other because it's in just about everything. And refried beans are notably and specifically Hispanic. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Iowa GOP either intends to make life just that little bit more difficult for low-income members of non-White ethnic groups by taking away staples of their cuisines, or they're so ignorant that they don't understand the impact of what they want to ban. My own opinion is also that there should be few or no food restrictions; let people budget their SNAP benefit and buy whatever they want.
