…….than you thinking it’s about “superiority”.

The idea, for better or worse, is that the responsibility of Head of State doesn’t go to someone who pushes their way to the front via politicking, money, power, fame, greed, popularity or deception. It just lands on the one person it’s destined for whether they like it or not.

No political power, but enormous latent power if they have the trust of the people.

It’s more subtle than you’re giving it credit for, and your own last POTUS has proved that letting the people choose their HoS isn’t necessarily the be all and end all.
