Perfectly nice guy, not an ounce of mean in him. These days, he'd be the last guy in the world you'd suspect of being a Republican--just like Rizzo was the last guy in the world you'd suspect of being a Democrat. No one even brought up if Thatcher was conservative or not. All that mattered was that he wasn't Rizzo. It's like getting into politics these days in South Dakota or Oklahoma. It's the courageous candidate indeed who thinks they will get anywhere starting out as a Democrat.

Thatcher's name does sort of sound like the kindly blacksmith in a Dickens novel, doesn't it?
