Would leave the escalation up to Putin. IF he wanted more he would most likely need to strike at a NATO country.

Leaving a sovereign country to the mercy of a nuclear power will simply lead to more countries who like Iran and N Korea feel the need to move towards acquiring the Bomb. If those with nuclear power are not going to protect the existence of sovereign nations it will drive each country to acquire their own with even more danger of actual use in the future. That, or it will drive those countries to the umbrella of protection of Russian who seemingly has convinced everyone they will use them to annihilate free countries killing thousands and displacing millions.
