Since I live in a small town but with all the necessities for living and a bit more they handled the vaccinations at several sites. Here in Arizona there are mostly drive up sites with appointments mind you.
I signed up as soon as I could several weeks ago with an early February appointment(s). Initially, I found vaccination slots in Tempe Arizona which is about a 2.5 hour drive from where I live in Flagstaff. At that time there were no slots available for those of us 65 plus where I live. I was hoping that the county would open up the availability for our age group. Only a few days later the states website notified everyone that there would be slots available for 65 plus in Flagstaff but limited to as I recall about 1200. So, as soon as possible I jumped onto the sign up page and made an appointment. Since this appointment was about 3 days prior to the Tempe appointment I decided to wait to make sure I was going to get the vaccine before I cancelled the Tempe appointment, which I did.
So, I had to locate the site called Fort Tuthill county park since I had never been there. Once the afternoon arrived I drove to the site. There were several twists and turns upon entering the site. Fortunately they had plenty of signs pointing where to turn to the vaccination site. As I got closer I was further checked by national guard trooper who also pointed me where to turn. There were additional guardsmen helping us where to turn and park. They had numbered slots for cars. Then I was checked in and a nurse came out to my car to explain the process and take some additional information. Within a couple of minutes a nurse came to administer the shot while still sitting in my car. I was told after the shot to wait up to 30 minutes to see if I were to have any severe side effects. After about 20 minutes I nurse came back to check on me and give the go ahead to leave. I didn't have any side effects.
I was instructed to make my second shot appointment as soon as I got home. They were willing to help me right then and there, but I am solidly versed with online appointments so I did so when I got home. They gave me my vaccine card to bring back with me for my second shot.
I think it was mostly national guardsmen who were handling all aspects with my site. I can't thank the women and men of our great national guard for all their help in making this drive up vaccination a smooth and timely process.
