(54,408 posts)Just take a quick stroll down memory lane during the primary season here on DU, and consider a few of the prominent names posting in favor of certain candidates--names of posters who have vanished into the breeze. They weren't here to comment and give opinions, they were paid propaganda workers who were here to influence us to the extent they could.
So in that sense, we are never truly free one way or the other. You just have to have the presence of mind to discard the propagandists and form your own opinions independently. The radical right encourages intellectual laziness--"let us do your thinking for you." Too many are willing to do just that--parrot Fox Noise and National Hate Radio, the truth be damned, who needs it? It is up to us to do the opposite, but also to realize that it is not ONLY the radical right looking to wash our brains.
