That's what Republicans would say, you know, to "protect the integrity of the voting system" while they proceed to corrupt it.
You're right that Trump voters couldn't pass a citizenship test. And therefore, Republican politicians would never allow it as a voter test. If all voters got the same test questions, Republicans would work really hard to find culturally biased questions that minorities and poor people would have trouble with and that rich white voters would recognize instantly. "What does ex-dividend date mean?" "Who is John Galt?"
My point is, your idea has merit, if we could keep it fair. But Republicans would twist it into yet another way to suppress voting.
