(4,395 posts)My parents are in their 70s with serious underlying health conditions and both have "colds". My brother is self-isolating because someone at his job tested positive. He and his family all have "colds" as well. I'm pretty sure all of them have already been infected.
They seem to be getting better but it's still a worry. I live overseas fortunately in a place with a sane leader and a national health care system and 10 days paid sick leave so I'm not really worried for myself but I'd have some really hard choices to make if I suddenly had to fly back to the States for very ill family members.
We can volunteer to work at home and I'm probably going to do it next week at least, maybe longer. I have asthma and work for a place with thousands of employees. There's no known community transmission where I live but I'd rather be on the safe side. I had pneumonia last year which knocked me on my ass for six weeks and I'm not in a hurry to get it again. The inhalers I have to use for the asthma hold my lung passages open so every single tiny bug I'm exposed to now turns into a massive chest infection.
I'm deliberately not catching up on a few of my favourite shows so I can binge watch them when I get sick.
