There are many ongoing investigations of him by the Southern District of New York, and by New York State too, among others. We're talking about investigations of things like money-laundering, state and federal tax evasion, bank fraud, conspiring with a foreign government to help him become president, and so many other crimes that appeared in the Mueller report (which concluded that a sitting president could not be indicted for his crimes).
So once he's dragged kicking and screaming from the White House, and charges are pursued against him and he's found guilty, will he go to jail? (He can't be pardoned if found guilty of state crimes.)
Democrats fear that setting the precedent of jailing an ex-prez will jeopardize every Democratic president whenever Republicans regain control of the senate and house. Why worry? This is something the Republicans will do regardless of precedents. They don't play nice, never have, and never will. They have tried to destroy every Democratic president since FDR. Look at Clinton. They tried to nail him over a BJ. The Republican wet dream was to jail Obama for the crime of being black.
Nonetheless, if our next president is a Democrat, the party will have nothing to say about it. This is a judicial matter and once a stable justice system is restored, it will be up to the courts as to what happens to him.
I'm sure that most of us would like to see him in a dungeon for life with (pick his cellmate).
But first things first. He must, MUST, be defeated and stopped from stealing the election (again). More easily said than done. While Dems are fighting among themselves, who knows what behind the scenes crap he's pulling to rig the November election? And given the help of the criminal Republican Party and Russia, among others, we must have the most massive Democratic turnout in history. Then, and only then, he can be dragged kicking and screaming from the White House. The alternative is too horrible to think about.
