6. I was briefly on Face Book, & was sent an essay about how the indentured servitude of the Irish was

...just like African enslavement. As I read through it I thought: "Oh no, I don't think so," and if I had had the time and energy I'd have done some research and refuted every point.

Instead, I chose to simply not reply. The woman who sent it to me is an old and dear friend from our undergrad days at University, and I love her like a sister. She's Scots-Irish with deep, deep roots in the South -- roots I can't even begin to fathom., since my ancestors just kept moving West. Racist? No. Isolationist? No. She married a Middle-Easterner after college, in 1971 -- and after 9-11 the extended family legally changed their surname because of the backlash. Trump makes her want to vomit, same as me.

Still, something about that spammy essay struck her as true, and that made me think about the power of social media, and I don't like it.
