(18,012 posts)Like virtually all developed countries, you have to have a valid reason for a permit to own, much less carry a firearm. If you hunt? Sure. EU countries do that. You live in a place with dangerous wild animals? Sure. Australia rightly considers that a valid reason. We can debate what's valid or not valid, but at least that's moving in the right direction.
And no semi-auto, period, end of story. You possess semi-auto, like full auto, you go to jail for a long time. Outlaw semi-auto and the whole magazine issue becomes mute and the amount of firepower walking around on the street is drastically reduced.
If you're caught possessing a firearm without a proper permit, you go to jail for a long time. Once we release all the non-violent offenders convicted of ticky tacky marijuana offenses, there will be plenty of room for gun humpers who don't want to get with the program.
