"Thoughts and Prayers" go no further than the person's brain who is expressing them and may only provide meditative relief for them only. So in that light, "Thoughts and Prayers" are selfish.

One can also express intent to commit to action, as in donations to charity or a gun control organization or to donate blood.

I feel if the victims hear of those type things from fellow citizens it would help far more than "Thoughts and Prayers".
