The doctor could have very well determined that his patient had become addicted to opioids.

At some point, the person sometimes can't tell if it's the addiction or pain causing them anguish.

Not everyone can take those other medications. Eliminating opioids removes the best option

She didn't have a cancer diagnosis. She was just so old that her systems were failing.
