(67,782 posts)I'm sure those who didn't attend any FamiliesBelongTogether event also didn't show up at any other event with an entourage clad in his campaign t-shirts (look at the photographs in the OP). To him the Centennial celebration was a campaign event.
Had he attended a FamiliesBelongTogether in Vermont (there were several, notably in Burlington, Barre, Rutland, Bennington, and more) how would people "spout bullshit" about him coopting "this movement"? Had he attended on in Los Angeles or Chicago, etc., that might be a valid criticism, but he didn't.
FamiliesBelongTogether was a national event in more than 700 towns and cities across the country, the demonstrations against the Dakota pipeline was in one area of one state. One can't logically compare the two.
Finally, it's been estimated that there are about 6,000 unaccompanied migrant children lost in the system, there are 4,500 residents in Newport, Vermont. Which group should be more important to one of only 100 United States Senators?
