The June 30 marches came together quite recently, in just the last several weeks. The Newport Centennial celebration has been planned for months if not years. If Sanders hadn't shown up but gone to one of the Keep Families Together demonstrations instead, I'm confident that he would have been slagged for that, too.
If it doesn't matter what Sanders does in a particular situation, it may not be an occasion for criticizing him. He had to choose one or the other. It doesn't appear that he was the center of attention in Newport, and he probably wouldn't have been the center of attention at one of the KFT demonstrations. This might be one time to give him a pass.
