Just when I thought my medical bills couldn't get any worse (a strangled cry for help) (1/8 Update) [View all]

8 January Update

2 steps forward, 3 steps back.

My Primary Care Physician is now 'in network' (step 1)
My Eye Surgeon is now 'in network' (step 2)

My Podiatrist is NOT in network and doesn't like like they will be (back 1)

I did get a referral to another surgeon in network for wound care and the last graft. $700 per visit until the deductible is paid ($2500)(back 2)

Went to get my prescriptions filled today. Went from a $45 copay for 3 months to $865 for 3 months, none of the meds I've been taking for the last year are covered (and that includes my insulin, which I'm out of) by this so called insurance (back 3). I can get alternates but that's going to take a couple of weeks.

I'm just going to go find a tall cliff somewhere I think. Not sure how much more I can take of this.

Just wanted to let those that have helped know what's going on.

Well in the previous installment of 'As the Stomach Turns...' I related that our insurance carrier was changing on Jan 1 from Blue Cross to United Health. My foot surgeon wasn't in network so my wound care was in some jeopardy. After talking to the doc, she was sure she could get 'in network' and we would continue on, she would get on it this morning.

I just heard back from her.

Things have gone from bad to worse.

She can get into the network, but it may take upwards of 90 days. If she can get in.
Remember I have an open wound on my foot that needs cleaning and care and had a graft scheduled.

There is only ONE other specialist in her field IN NETWORK.

Two Month wait to get an appointment. And then I expect to have to start over with them on all the tests and such bullshit.
Remember I have an open wound on my foot that needs cleaning and care and had a graft scheduled.

Now lets go from worse to way worse...

My eye surgeon isn't in network either. So the follow up that I had scheduled from the recent eye surgery. Not happening. The last was an injection in the eye (ewwwwwwwwwww) to do something about the swelling and 'wet spot' on the back of my eye from Diabetic complications.

And the top it all off....

My PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR... you guess it... not in network. I was supposed to get this week to get a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) to try to keep my sugar in check.

So, happy frigging new year.

I lost my Foot Surgeon.
I lost my Eye Surgeon.
I lost my Primary Care Physician.

at least 60 days for any of them to get in network. If they can.
at least a 60 day wait for getting an appointment for a new doc(s), assuming I can get one.
and given the shitty way this is going, I'm fully expecting United Health to find a way to get out of any care for this.

The only one that's really a pressing issue is my foot. We were maybe a month from being healed and done. On more graft and some TLC and I had recovered from what most thought wasn't going to happen. They thought I would lose the foot back in June.

The foot can stuff be done, if we come up with a couple or three thousand to pay totally out of pocket. Right now I'm convinced that things are going to go south again and the foot will get infected from lack of care and I'm gonna end up losing the foot. We're in a state of panic.

I thank everyone that has helped in the past, and as much as it pains me, I have to ask again, this time with some... urgency. I don't know if anyone can help any more, but I have to ask.

The GoFundMe is still referencing the earlier situations of just catching up to the original bills. I have to get up the strength and mental state to update it to the mess now.

the GoFundMe is here https://www.gofundme.com/richardmedbills

Thank You.
thanks if you can.
