Gaming the system

Hawaii has gone from less than 200 visitors a day to more than 2000! Ask yourself, why is this happening? I have a friend who recently moved to Hawaiʻi, and went through the mandatory 2 week quarantine. He was contacted 3 times by telephone, and was following the guidelines, but he could have been doing ANYTHING! Now that people are aware of the lax follow-up, they are coming into the state and doing most of the things they would do on a regular vacation. I have seen some of these visitors around the Big Island, no masks, and wandering about like normal. We had 207 reported cases on 8/3, with several days in a row reporting triple digits. People are so stupid. Aloha.

Quarantine

What do you folks think about the mandatory 2 week quarantine for trans-Pacific visitors?

My view is that it should be extended for as long as it takes to have accurate testing. The test results are not immediate, or that accurate.

I know many tourism related businesses are suffering, including mine, but the risk of infection will only remain low as long as visitors are required to self-quarantine.

We can really appreciate the dilemma Ige must face.

stranded in the Philippines

Many people are stranded in the Philippines after domestic air travel has been shut down. Very difficult to get from the provincial cities to Manila or Cebu by other means of transport, effectively preventing many from getting to international airports.

ranked voting by mail

just got my mail-in primary ballot. This is a convenient way to vote, rather than making time to go to the caucus site. I caucused in 2016, and it was fun, but it took a big chunk out of the day. Vote blue!
