DemocracyMouse's JournalBREAKING IN FEB: Brexit was flipped by Putin and Mueller is now investigating
Me and a dozen others screamed and hollered about US vote suppression for years and the media only caught up when Georgia Republicans stole votes AGAIN last November.....
Why does it take the media so FRIGGIN LONG to connect both Trump's stolen election and Brexit back to Putin?! Or maybe Britain is discussing this and the US media is just slow and stupid and distracted by football and other dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb shit (and while you're reading all that dumb, throw in a concussion and depressed footballers).

Mueller questions Cambridge Analytica director Brittany Kaiser
Second former employee of controversial data firm to be questioned by special counsels inquiry into Russia collusion
Carole Cadwalladr for the Guardian
Sun 17 Feb 2019
A director of the controversial data company Cambridge Analytica, who appeared with Arron Banks at the launch of the Leave.EU campaign, has been subpoenaed by the US investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.
A spokesman for Brittany Kaiser, former business development director for Cambridge Analytica which collapsed after the Observer revealed details of its misuse of Facebook data confirmed that she had been subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller, and was cooperating fully with his investigation.
Damian Collins, chairman of parliaments inquiry into fake news, said it was no surprise that Kaiser was under scrutiny by Mueller because her work connected her to WikiLeaks, Cambridge Analytica and [its parent company] SCL, the Trump campaign, Leave.EU and Arron Banks.
He said it was now vital Britain had its own inquiry into foreign interference: We should not be leaving this to the Americans.
Why doesn't the $&@#%!!! media mention Russia's DECISIVE influence on Brexit
There was a smattering of mentions here and there in the past, but on the whole, US journalists have FLUNKED again. It's all about Theresa May and Parliament.
There's this from January.... then radio silence:

A recent report on Russian influence operations overseas detailed large amounts of money and effort spent to influence the referendum. Scott Simon talks with The New Yorker's Jane Mayer.
SCOTT SIMON, HOST:
Two democracies who share so much are in political turmoil at the same time this weekend - the U.S., in the midst of the longest government shutdown in its history, and the United Kingdom, stuck between a referendum in which people voted to leave the European Union and the reality of having no plan to do that with the deadline just two months away.
But what about the role of a third country that may benefit from the chaos? Russia has been accused of meddling in the 2016 U.S. elections and the 2016 Brexit referendum. We're joined now by Jane Mayer, staff writer at The New Yorker, who's been covering the issue. Thanks so much for being with us.
Trump and the collapsing Republican Party are triggering a massive political immune system
I posted this elsewhere on DU as a comment and one of DU's members suggested I make it an OP:😀 There are bio-electronic analogies for what Trump is doing to the nation
We may have a hierarchical democratic system, but in addition to the checks and balances built into that very system, we also have the DNA of that democracy built into most of the citizens and spread throughout courts, laws and non-profit foundations. Obviously 30% of the citizens, Trump's base, never got the lesson in school (or they did but being in his cult induced a short circuit). But the DNA is now activated in the other 70% and a genuine resistance has flared up like antibodies in the immune system.
Another analogy: when a tree is bent to the breaking point by a strong wind, the cells regrow stronger than ever. It can then withstand even greater threats. Nixon strengthened America in many ways, giving rise to progressive legislation and a narrative about dysfunctional presidencies. The Great Depression produced the New Deal.
With both Nixon and the first New Deal in our institutional wisdom, Trump may easily induce a Green New Deal. I'm not gonna wait around for that to happen though. My immune system is already triggered and I put a handmade sign on my car that stretches across the entire bumper:

It's Constitutional, not "radical": free speech for all men and women, including Muslims
Ilhan Omar was brought to task for calling out, in the great American tradition of free speech, the buying of politicians by a foreign country (and not by a religious group) and many prominent Jews agreed with her. Time to take some deep breaths and start letting some light in. The real anti-semitism is in Trump's corner.
Shoddy media reporting, along with elite fears of what the American public really wants, have driven this disgrace

I wish I could say I were surprised at the demonization of Ilhan Omar by an establishment that remains eager to whitewash Elliott Abrams' record of war crimes. But Im not. In fact, its exactly what Ive come to expect. The super-strict (yet simultaneously sloppy) language policing to which Omar has been subjected is ludicrously asymmetric.
No matter how heinously conservatives may behave, Democrats always bend over backward to punish anyone on their side whom conservatives single out as comparable, no matter how far-fetched or bogus those conservative claims might be. Were seeing that now as House Democrats struggle over a resolution aimed at rebuking Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., for nonexistent anti-Semitic comments. As Paul Waldman explained at the Washington Post: Omar did not accuse Jews of holding dual loyalties. Rather, she objected to dual loyalties being demanded of her and those who attacked her only proved her point.
New Presidential Candidate Making Global Warming #1 Priority
Good for him. He's seeing the big picture. Hats off if Warren, Booker, Harris or Sanders also prioritize the jobs-climate equation (the Green New Deal and its variants). We MUST simultaneously address the extreme wealth divide and our civilization-killing addiction to oil. We can only heal this country by taking such an integrated approach. FDR lives! Rachel Carson (Silent Spring) lives! Dr. Robert Bullard lives! (Dr. Bullard is the African American father of the environmental justice movement.)
Im running for president because Im the only candidate who will make defeating climate change our nations No. 1 priority.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on Friday became the first major candidate in history to officially launch a White House bid centered entirely on combating climate change, entering a crowded field of Democrats vying to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020.
In a video that opens with shots of storm clouds gathering over the Seattle skyline, Inslee, 68, vowed to transition the nation to 100 percent renewable electricity and generate millions of good paying jobs in every community across America.
Young activists arrested at Mitch McConnell's office while demanding action on climate change
Looks like the old guard, no matter the party affiliation, are getting a lot of attention from the kids who have to live in the hurricane-saturated world the Big Oil generation has created. Green New Deal please. Big solutions time. We have 12 years to turn things around. Thankfully most Democrats are already with the kids... and the scientists.

Young people, worried for their future, are tired of waiting around for politicians to negotiate deals with the planet. Senators have been hiding in their offices for fear of facing these young people. Todays big coward was Sen. Mitch McConnell.
They sang and marched peacefully up and down the hallway.
McConnell, who likely has 10 panic buttons throughout his office, may have pressed all of them, because the kids were being arrested for their part in the protest. This comes a short while after the protesters were warned that this kind of peaceful protest freaks people out.

Earth may be 140 years away from reaching carbon levels not seen in 56 million years
Source: Science Daily
A new study finds humans are pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere at a rate nine to 10 times higher than the greenhouse gas was emitted during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), a global warming event that occurred roughly 56 million years ago.
The results suggest if carbon emissions continue to rise, the total amount of carbon dioxide injected into the atmosphere since humans started burning fossil fuels could equal the amount released during the PETM as soon as 2159.
"You and I won't be here in 2159, but that's only about four generations away," said Philip Gingerich, a paleoclimate researcher at the University of Michigan and author of the new study in the AGU journal Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology. "When you start to think about your children and your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren, you're about there."

This, and the UN report giving us 12 years to do something, is why millions of younger Americans want a Green New Deal.
Hey Older Folks:
Remember that line in the Buffalo Springfield song? The one that goes "getting so much resistance from behind". Why are we hippies NOT listening to this new generation? Why do we protect the status quo so much?
Australian Rat Declared Extinct Due To Man-Made Climate Change
Source: Huffington Post
The Australian government has confirmed the extinction of a small rodent native to a tiny spit of sand in the northernmost part of the Great Barrier Reef ― the first known mammal lost to human-caused climate change.
Bramble Cay melomys lived on the coral island of Bramble Cay, located in the Torres Strait between Queensland state and Papua New Guinea. The Government of Queensland initially declared the species extinct in a 2016 report, and Australian Environment Minister Melissa Price confirmed the die-off in a press release this week. The whiskered rat has been officially reclassified from endangered to extinct.
Geoff Richardson, an official with Australias Department of the Environment and Energy, told lawmakers on Monday that the declaration was not a decision to take lightly, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

This was just announced Monday. EVERY piece of breaking news about a lost species due to OUR consumption of oil is WORSE NEWS THAN WE CAN EVEN CONCEIVE OF. Still driving around unnecessarily in gas guzzing SUVs? Please plan on going door to door for Democrats in 2020. We MUST vote out climate deniers like Trump and a majority of the Republican Party.

The War On Climate Change Wont Be Won Quibbling Over The Green New Deals Costs
The mounting damage of global warming is a crisis far greater than the deficit.

...The Green New Deal is framed as a joint resolution, not a formal law, meaning even if it passed, the measure wouldnt bind the government to any new policies. This distinction is key to understanding what the Green New Deal is and is not and how to usefully talk about it now. It is a major statement of the Democratic Partys political priorities. It is not a detailed blueprint of how to get there or how to pay for it.
The Green New Deals agenda, however, is clear: Dramatic action must be taken to avert a climate disaster that will otherwise render much of the world uninhabitable. This is an emergency that deserves immediate attention. Millions of lives are quite literally at stake.
Instead of extreme weather disasters, famines and wars over natural resources, the Green New Deal envisions a future in which our nation overcomes its addiction to oil, gas and coal. The federal government would need so many workers to deploy renewable energy, retrofit buildings to be more energy efficient and construct more durable infrastructure that it could guarantee a job to every American who wants one. Those jobs would pay well and offer union protections. And because climate change touches on every facet of life, the transition away from fossil fuels would happen alongside a rapid expansion of safeguards for Americans already suffering the ill effects of dirty energy, from poisoned waterways to the coal industrys monopolistic domination of entire regional economies.
One priority the Green New Deal does not include? Balancing the federal budget. Neither the Green New Deal legislation nor an FAQ released by Ocasio-Cortez last week included a detailed set of plans about how to pay for it. This is as it should be.
This was the approach taken during the original New Deal. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt saw fighting the Depression and the Nazi war machine as emergencies that required immediate action. Roosevelt himself liked balanced budgets as much as the next fellow. He raised taxes on the rich repeatedly ― the top rate rose as high as 94 percent during the war. But he didnt let a balanced budget get in the way of progress. If he couldnt get enough money from taxes, Roosevelt borrowed it, fighting both the Depression and World War II with enormous federal debts.
