He really is even dumber than we thought

Charlie Pierce on glimpses from the Woodward book:
How to lower the national debt:
"Just run the presses — print money," Trump said, according to Woodward, during a discussion on the national debt with Gary Cohn, former director of the White House National Economic Council.

He honestly thought you could just print the $20 trillion and wipe out the debt.

I don't understand how he could have run a business and not have heard of "inflation."

I have James Clapper's book in audio-- can send to your email

Thanks to demtenjeep for offering print versions of these "insider" books! I have a few of these books in Audible format (audiobook), which I could send to you if you've never gotten an audible book this way. I think it comes to you as a link, and you can listen to it on your PC or phone. Let me know-- I would need an email or mobile phone #.

BTW, the Clapper book is named Facts and Fears. Notice how often 'fear' comes into play in these titles....

California Wildfire Suspect Posted About QAnon, Other Conspiracies

Source: Huff Post

A man arrested on Tuesday in connection with a devastating wildfire in Southern California is a conspiracy theorist who posted videos about satanic rituals and QAnon.

“This place is going to burn,” Forrest Clark, 51, allegedly texted a volunteer fire chief two weeks before an inferno enveloped Orange County, burning nearly 20,000 acres and destroying 12 homes.

The Holy Fire still rages and is only 5 percent contained, the Orange County Register reported.

Another GOP weird cuck nasty-

Illinois state Rep. Nick Sauer has resigned from his post after an ex-girlfriend claimed that he used her nude photographs on an Instagram account in an effort to “catfish” men.

In a complaint Kelly filed with the state’s Office of the Legislative Inspector General, she said he lured men “who believed they were communicating with me” into “graphic conversations of a sexual nature,” according to the Politico report.

Where do they find these guys?

Corey Booker is saying it the right way--

"Trump is weak and submissive." (This was on All In, MSNBC.)

That's what we should be saying.
Weak.
Submissive.
Lickspittle.
Coward.
Pushover.
Weakling.
Quisling.

Loser.

Is there even one Republican who is expressing queasiness?

I know it's too much to ask for consistency with the GOP, but after 8 years of them bashing Obama for his courtesy to other leaders, you'd think Trump's obeisance to Putin would twinge at them just a bit.

In the last month, he's made it clear that he considers Russia and North Korea major powers, that Putin is to be fawned over, and that the our best allies are "foes".

And now this news conference, where he's so obviously kowtowing to Putin--
But they probably will come away and say how tough he was. He'll say it.

And at the very same time, he is telling everyone that our Dept of Justice and FBI are criminally persecuting Putin and him.

As the Birchers used to say, "None dare call it treason!"

Well, the GOP certainly won't.

Did Trump Just Help Stop Brexit?

Source: NY Magazine

The Brexiteers’ next gambit was nihilistically lashing out, by using Trump to piss all over May’s compromise, which he duly did, the day after behaving like someone on PCP at the NATO summit. “I would have done [Brexit] much differently. I actually told Theresa May how to do it, but she didn’t listen to me,” he told the Murdoch-owned Sun, adding that any new trade deal with the U.S. would be off the table if May got her way. He also went on to tout Boris Johnson as a potential alternative prime minister. And this all spilled out at the very moment May was pleading with Trump at the dinner at Blenheim Palace to give her a new trade deal to ease the pain of leaving the E.U. It was a brutal and unprecedented attack on a sitting prime minister as she was actually hosting the American president for a visit. It was a knee-capping.

It was also, in my immediate view, a serious Brexiteer blunder. Trump is despised in Britain, as he is across Europe. His endorsement of the Brexiteers at this critical moment is humiliating for May but potentially a boon for her as well. If Donald Trump is now the face of Brexit in Britain, Brexit is in trouble. And Brits will not take kindly to their own prime minister being dictated to and humiliated by an American president, as he lands on British soil. That he is also touting Boris will only deepen the reaction.

Ends with an epic rant about Trump's lies.

I know it's Fox News

"When asked in the Fox News interview if Comey should be locked up, Trump agreed. But he also hedged a bit."

The press really has to stop using Trump's wording in questions ("Fake news," "locked up," etc.). Even if Comey had committed a possible crime, he shouldn't be "locked up." "Investigated" or "indicted," okay. But the reporter using the term "locked up" echoes Trump's "Lock her up!" which suggests that the president has the power to order people into prison. The reporter is accepting by that terminology that immediate imprisonment without trial is normal.

I don't like them even accepting Trump's version of what might have happened, but at least, "Do you think Comey committed a crime, and if so, what is the crime?"
pushes him to go beyond his thuggish threats. I wish they would ask, "Please name the actual crimes you are accusing them of."

Our gov't spokesperson: "You have a great day, you're a piece of trash,"

This is from an Atlantic article about the resignation of a young EPA aide who is reportedly "tired of being thrown under the bus" to protect Scott Pruitt.

The EPA officially is apparently not happy about this young aide refusing anymore to take the blame for Pruitt's corruptions.

When reached by phone, Jahan Wilcox, an EPA spokesperson, would not comment. He said: “You have a great day, you’re a piece of trash.”

Think about it. Our taxpayer dollars are going to pay Wilcox.

Jim Jordan: Chutzpah

You know the old joke about the definition of "chutzpah"==

The man who killed his parents who asks the judge for mercy because he's an orphan.

Well, Congressman Jim Jordan "Freedom Caucus" did that today.

He called for another special counsel to investigate the FBI because, he says, they're obviously corrupt at the top and this is why they are investigating Trump. He pointed to the firing and reassignment of most of the top officials as evidence that something must be rotten in the FBI, else why would they be so bad they were fired?

You remember those guys-- Comey, and all the aides Comey told about Trump's obstruction of justice attempts. IOW, Trump fired/reassigned them to get rid of them and taint them as witnesses, and Jordan uses their firing as evidence that they had it in for Trump-- not that Trump had it in for them.

It's breathtaking. I know I shouldn't say this, but I sure hope law enforcement officers notice how in their worship/coverup of Trump, the GOP is trying to make the FBI the enemy of the US. And they should also notice especially how McCabe and Comey-- not perfect men by any means-- have been treated terribly by Trump and the GOP after spending their adult lives in federal service.
