How the hell did I end up back in 1985?

My old company was bought out in August and I moved across the head up what is now a new division of a well established company in the London landscape. This has necessitated some change of course, for example, this is the first time in my career that I am the only female on the executive team. Makes for some very interesting reactions from the chaps when they realise that I do not take any prisioners, Ever. So far so very normal - being a successful senior executive and female seems to have a very interesting effect on a certain type of chap.... they can do all the willy waving they want - me, I'll just beat them on performance. Much more satisfying.

So far, so typical for a woman in a male dominated environment. Right? Yep.

And then this:

Yes. Really. 2018 and in one of our offices, a shared space with other businesses, I had the misfortune to walk past another businesses office door to see this on the back of it. 2018 and this is still hanging in an office, in the centre of one of the most diverse cities in the world. The reaction when I raised it was a shrug of the shoulders and a 'what can you do attitude' by my male colleagues in the executive team.

How the hell did I end up back in the 1980's?

Heh. Don't get me wrong. I am strong old bint. Very little phases me. However, why should I and all the other women, and probably a lot of the men, have to put up with such blatant sexism in a shared space.

Monday - i take it up with the management of the building...

If It Walks Like A Duck And Quacks Like A Duck It Is Obviously A Horse.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt. It is an everyday occurrence for some. And it is getting wilfully worse now across much of the West. Trump and Brexit to name two. Most of us see a duck and know it is a duck, we may disagree on what kind of a duck however we accept that it is indeed a duck, but for some the idea of accepting it is a duck is so contrary to their world viewpoint they will argue till the cows come home that the duck is not a duck, no siree. It might look like a duck, it might quack like a duck, but hell no. That duck is actually a horse.

Shall we examine the evidence?

Did you know that a higher proportion of white Americans believe they have touched a ghost than those who believe black people experience discrimination? (Pew: August 2009 and May 2013).

Of course, the statistics speak for themselves and they are not pretty.

Black sounding names are 50 percent less likely to be called back by those reviewing job applications. Black people are charged roughly $700 more when buying cars. Black drivers are twice as likely to get pulled over. Black clients are shown 17.7 percent fewer houses for sale. Black people are much more likely to be arrested for marijuana use. Black people are incarcerated at nearly six times the rate of white people (to be fair this is from 2015 – probably much worse now!)

Just listen to that duck quacking but conservatives say neigh!

You know they have it bad when Colin Powell must call them out while Obama was still President:

There’s also a dark — a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party. What do I mean by that? ......When I see a former governor say that the President is “shuckin’ and jivin’,” that’s racial era slave term. When I see another former governor after the president’s first debate where he didn’t do very well, says that the president was lazy. He didn’t say he was slow. He was tired. He didn’t do well. He said he was lazy. Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is shiftless and then there’s a third word that goes along with that.

And this is before Trump arrived and tripled, quadrupled, multiplied by 100 the acceptance of far-right racist bollocks….If it looks like a Nazi it must be a very fine person…….

Lots of ponies sure are galloping around that paddock. Neigh!

I was going to look at Evolution, Gay Rights and Reproductive Justice as part of this article, but I fear the word count would start to get silly. Needless to say however, evolution is real, abortions do not cause cancer and the sky is not falling because the gay. The duck is quacking, but as we all know, conservatives as is their want, are neighing very loudly indeed.

Hey Ho (or should that be quack?) to the Neigh!

What is our purpose?

Ghandi said that ‘The main purpose of life is to live rightly, think rightly, act rightly. The soul must languish when we give all our thought to the body.’

The Dalai Lama once said that ‘the purpose of life was to be happy’. He also said that is was ‘Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them.’

What is our purpose? What is yours?

Eric Trump: Pull Politics Out of It, The 'Deranged' Pittsburgh Shooter 'Doesn't Represent the Right'

On Saturday night, First Son Eric Trump attempted to distance politics and the right from the actions of the alleged Pittsburgh synagogue mass shooter Robert Bowers.

Speaking with Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro, the Trump son made it clear, at least in his view, Bowers was deranged.

“At the end of the day, this is obviously a very sick, deranged human — A sick, deranged person to do this,” Eric Trump said. “It seems we have gotten to a point in life and society where everything has to be kind of politicized…Somebody has to point a political finger at absolutely everything.”

Why the West is unprepared for the next economic crash

After eight years of consistent, if often anaemic, global economic growth, the risk of a new recession is rising. The recent annual report by the United Nations Conference on Trade Development (UNCTAD) was testimony to this: rising debt, increasing inequality, the absence of necessary financial regulation and the emergence of global tech monopolies led the list of economic threats in 2019.

Growth is underpinned by a highly unstable debt mountain three times the size of global output. In the UK and the US, household debt is approaching pre-crisis levels and, in the absence of significant growth in real wages, this will further constrain consumer spending – the driving force of global growth for the last 40 years. Social security cuts in both countries are also intensifying the pressure on households. Indeed, the US’s broken education system now mirrors its pre-2007 housing market; student loans are being securitised – bundled-up – and sold on financial markets in the same way that mortgages have been.
