Cuthbert Allgood's JournalTrevor Noah explains eloquently why Bloomberg doesn't get it.
https://twitter.com/benjaminpdixon/status/1228734357889785856If Bloomberg wins this nomination, I'm going to have to drink a LOT of Glenlivet before I have to vote for him.
And when you finish this, look for the Twitter threads about the horribly sexist things he has said.
We can do better than to nominate this guy, Dems.
Bloomberg on Marijuana: Leagalizing..."Stupidest Thing Anybody Has Ever Done"
Sorry for truncating the title; it was too long. Here is the full title:
"We have a different kind of problem in America, for example. Last year, in 2017, 72,000 Americans [overdosed] on drugs. In 2018, more people than that are OD-ing on drugs, have OD'd on drugs. And today, incidentally, we are trying to legalize another addictive narcotic, which is perhaps the stupidest thing anybody has ever done. We've got to fight that, and that's another thing that Bloomberg Philanthropies will work on it in public health."
The position from the billionaire politician would seem to be out of step with Democratic leaders in his state and liberal voters nationwide. Newly re-elected New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, for instance, said he would make legalization a priority in a December speech outlining the goals for his first 100 days of his new term.
Recent polls meanwhile have shown a comfortable majority of Americans support legalizing the recreational use of marijuana. A Gallup poll released in October found that 66 percent of Americans support legalizing the drug, including three-in-four Democrats.
"Like support for gay marriageand in prior years, interracial marriagesupport for marijuana legalization has generally only expanded, even if slowly, over the course of multiple decadesraising the question of where the ceiling in support might be," the Gallup poll noted. "As the percentage of Americans who favor legalizing pot has continued to grow, so has the number of states that have taken up legislation to allow residents to use the substance recreationally."
This clown needs to go away. We don't need Dems running for office that think marijuana is addictive.

Joe Biden calls game developers "little creeps" who make titles that "teach you how to kill"
And then one of these righteous people said to me that, you know, 'We are the economic engine of America. We are the ones.' And fortunately I had done a little homework before I went and I said, you know, I find it fascinating, Biden continued. As I added up the seven outfits, everyones there but Microsoft. I said, you have fewer people on your payroll than all the losses that General Motors just faced in the last quarter, of employees. So dont lecture me about how youve created all this employment.. The point is, theres an arrogance about it, an overwhelming arrogance that we are, we are the ones. We can do what we want to do. I disagree.
Biden has expressed his distaste for video games in the past. During 2013, while he was vice president, he proposed an additional tax on violent media, including violent games.
Despite numerous studies showing no link between violent video games and real-life violent crimes, weve seen several politicians suggesting extra taxes be added to the titles.

Yeah, it's video games. Despite pretty much every study, ever, I'm sure we need to crack down on video games.
And please tell me how this isn't pandering to the older crowd while telling the younger crowd that you don't care?
Disney+. I feel like I got my $5.99 worth just with the first Mandalorian episode.
Jon Favreau needs to direct all the Star Wars things. I felt like Mandalorian was the mash up of the best things about Star Wars with the best things about the spaghetti westerns.
And I audibly gasped at the end of the episode (foregoing spoilers at this point).
What percentage of the population knows what a record player is?
It's things like that that make it hard to hope he's our nominee.
Looking for suggestions for a minority voices literature class.
I am teaching a new class next year. First time it is being offered in the school. It will focus on literature that comes from minority voices in the US. This would be both cultural/ethnic and "situational" (if you have a better word for that, I'm looking for something better). What I mean by "situational" is LGBTQ, poverty, autism, mental health, incarceration, etc. I have some things in mind, but looking for things I probably missed. Hit me up with some titles. This would be for high school juniors and is decidedly NOT an honors class.
Black Summer -- Netflix zombie series
Started watching episode 1 tonight (Easter tradition) and got sucked in. Really liked it. My son, not a huge zombie fan, really likes it, too.
It does what Fear the Walking Dead said it would do--explore the beginning of the apocalypse. Characters are solid. Good exploration of the different ways humans handle this situation.
Recommended.
This Godless Communism (Treasure Chest Comics)--Crosspost from Comic Books group
So I was just scrolling through my ComicBookRealm website seeing what might have gone up in value and I noticed a huge amount under profit. Checked to see that it was my Treasure Chest comics for the This Godless Communism run.
I had these on a back burner to try and get when I had the choice but wasn't actively seeking them out. (For the record, it is Volume 17 of Treasure Chest issues 2-20 evens only--so 10 comic books.) I went into my LCBS one day and they have them up behind the counter for sale as a set. All 10 for $60. I knew from just mild interest that some of them had been going for that for a single issue on eBay. So it took me about less than a second to pull the trigger on them.
Fast forward a few years and now the whole bunch (I graded them about a 6.0, so I'm talking that price not for mint) is worth $1,000. That's a nice profit. Especially for something I bought just because I thought they were a hilarious throw back to the red scare shit of my youth.
You can read the atheism specific pages here. It's funny shit. I was born in the 60s and raised Catholic, so reading these old Treasure Chest comics is a hoot. And it also got me a nice profit, apparently.

Me Too Founder Tarana Burke Calls Biden's Response 'Disrespectful And Inexcusable'
In a Twitter thread, Burke argued that the seven women who say they received unwanted physical contact from Biden were right to speak up and that the likely 2020 contender appears be deeply missing the point they are trying to make.
Its about bodily autonomy, its about power and leadership, wrote Burke, who first started using the phrase Me Too to raise awareness about the pervasiveness of sexual misconduct in 2006.
...
Burke reiterated in her tweets that nobody is calling for [Biden] to be incarcerated or sent away. But just because his behavior isnt as extreme as that of disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein ― who is facing rape charges ― that doesnt mean it should be ignored, Burke said. Doing so, she argued, will only help deepen a culture of silence around all sexual harassment and violence.

I stand with Tarana Burke on this.
