Ahead of summit, Trump blames US -- not Putin -- for sour relationship

Helsinki, Finland (CNN)Four hours before his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump blamed the United States and the special counsel's investigation stemming from Russian 2016 election interference for the dismal state of relations between the two countries.
Trump is set to sit down Monday with Putin, hoping once again that his personal touch can reverse the steep decline in US-Russia relations in recent years.
But while US officials have stressed the path to improving US-Russia ties runs through a clear-eyed understanding of Russian aggression and the root causes of discord in the relationship, Trump has signaled in the lead-up to the summit he finds previous US administrations and law enforcement -- not Putin -- accountable for the breakdown.

VP Pence tears into McCaskill, shrugs off disruptions at KC event

Vice President Mike Pence repeatedly tore into U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill at a raucous event Wednesday in Kansas City that highlighted both the stark political division in the country and the role the region will have in deciding which party controls Congress next year.

Pence had barely begun his speech to more than 550 people at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown before a man jumped up and began yelling, “Mike, where are the children? Shame on you!” in reference to the separation of children from their families at the southern border.

Kansas GOP candidate: 'Outside of Western civilization, there is only barbarism'

A Kansas state senator vying for Congress is standing by inflammatory comments he made this month at a Leavenworth County Republican Party meeting.

"Outside Western civilization, there is only barbarism," said Steve Fitzgerald, who is one of seven GOP candidates running in the 2nd congressional district primary.

Fitzgerald's comments were first reported by CNN on Saturday. A "Democratic operative" provided audio from a 30-minute speech Fitzgerald gave July 2.

"I’m fairly plainspoken," Fitzgerald told The Star Saturday. "I think the story speaks for itself."

He criticized CNN for quoting him out of context but did not dispute the accuracy of the comments.

"Our Judeo-Christian ethic is what is civilization," Fitzgerald said at the meeting. "And that is what is under attack here and abroad. It also goes by a different name. Christendom. It's under attack. And even speaking about it can bring you under attack. It has brought me under attack."

Fitzgerald is vying for the Republican nomination in a race to replace U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins, who is retiring. The primary is Aug. 7.

Fitzgerald's current district as a state senator covers parts of Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties.

At the meeting, he also doubled down on earlier remarks he made comparing abortion to the Holocaust.

In response, a group of rabbis with the Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City demanded he stop comparing the slaughter of millions by Nazis to abortion.

"We demand that you cease immediately making these offensive and divisive comparisons to the Holocaust for political purposes, and to find different language to discuss abortion, out of respect for the millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust," the group wrote.

The Kansas Republican Party made the same demand, CNN reported.

On Saturday, Fitzgerald said that Nazi Germany, a Western society, was a "deviation" from Western civilization's norms.

Last year, an anonymous person submitted a donation to Planned Parenthood in Fitzgerald's name. Fitzgerald lashed out, saying he felt it was as bad as or worse than being associated with the concentration camp Dachau.

Its amazing, and I guess a result of all the b.s. the conservative
stations spew out..a.m. radio around here is pretty hardcore gop.

Anyway lately I've noticed threads asking where the democratic party will go.
What will liberals do once their party is eliminated from any prominence to
the public. Where will liberals go? These people sincerely believe that we are
done..has beens..dinosaurs..

Traditional progressive myself...and I have no problems getting primed for
battle, everyday..with those supporting the treachery in washington..24 - 7.
We all need to keep it in our thoughts...Because it is not an exaggeration to
say the right will continue to screw us over...on clean air, clean water..taxes,
and the economy..

Kansas tax reform drives $1.2 billion growth in annual revenue collections


The state of Kansas wrapped up the fiscal year by collecting $1.21 billion more in tax revenue than the previous year following repeal of controversial income tax policies derived from supply-side economic theory and championed by former Gov. Sam Brownback.

Income and sales tax receipts in the 12-month budget year ending June 30 exceeded projections of legislative budget analysts by more than $300 million.


And the result?

Action by the 2017 Legislature to repeal the income tax exemption for owners of 330,000 businesses and to raise individual income tax rates, despite Brownback’s veto of the bill, helped lawmakers stabilize the budget and respond to a Kansas Supreme Court decision requiring larger investment in K-12 public schools. Modest improvement in the state’s economy is considered a contributing factor to overall revenue expansion.


And guess who wants to roll back that income tax raise?

Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is campaigning for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, said a spike in revenue $317 million beyond the anticipated annual increase demonstrated the need for lower taxes.

Courtroom antics show Kobach not fit to lead..

Yeah I know...another post bashing kobitch...But it is running for the governor of kansaaas...so
it is open for dialogue. This article pretty well nails down the handjobs inadequacy to govern/lead
a group of horses to water. Let along a state of hardcore rightwingers..Its campaign ads are full
of b.s. smoke and mirrors.

Stopping illegal immigration in Kansas is something that the Kansas state government should be doing something about, but instead we’re going the opposite direction and giving incentives for illegal immigrants by giving in-state tuition.”


Would someone please tell me where these kansas sanctuary counties and cities are?


Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach has been on vivid display in federal courtrooms over the past year, and his performance there tells Kansas Republicans all they need to know about his capacity to be the next governor of Kansas. He clearly lacks the competence and character to be elected to higher office.

Some Republicans may admire zealotry in prosecuting voting fraud by non-citizens. But after seven years in office Kobach appeared in court ill-prepared and lacking in evidence. In his reckless quest he has been cited in contempt of court for repeated misleading representations, defiance of court orders, and violations of judicial procedure.
