Did Biden commit treason? Dissecting Elon Musk's public meltdown JUDD LEGUM AND TESNIM ZEKERIA MAR 6, 2024

On Tuesday, billionaire Elon Musk told his 175 million followers on X that President Biden had committed "treason" by "secretly" flying "320,000 illegal immigrants" from Latin America to US airports.

It is quite a dramatic claim. The only problem is that nearly everything Musk said is a lie.

Musk was responding to information from Collin Rugg, the co-owner of a right-wing news aggregation site called Trending Politics. Rugg's post references a report by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) about a program expanding humanitarian parole for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans. CIS is an anti-immigrant think tank co-founded by eugenicist and racist John Tanton.

Tomorrows NYT: With Biden only getting 80-90% of the votes, what will Democrats do?

Somehow Democratic Disarray will be the theme.

Swiss vote to give themselves a bigger pension

Swiss voters have given themselves an extra month's pension each year - in a nationwide referendum focusing on living standards for the elderly.

The government had warned that the increased payments would be too expensive to afford.
But almost 60% of voters said 'yes' in Sunday's poll. Separately, 75% rejected raising the pension age from 65 to 66.

Imagine a society where we increase social benefits, where we decide everyone deserves financial security. It seems so far away, so improbable.

Today in the enshittification of, well everything, but certainly the internet.

Yahoo lays off the leaders of Engadget

Ten people at the outlet are losing their jobs, and the editorial staff will be split into two sections. A memo says strategy will focus more on traffic and collaboration with sales and SEO

https://www.theverge.com/2024/2/22/24080215/engadget-layoffs-tech-news-blogs-editorial-restructuring

For those not following the Great Enshittification, 'SEO' is Search Engine Optimization. It is the endless gaming of google search (97% market share monoploly) to put your spammy dubious malwarey page up in the top of googles search results.

Engadget was, like CNET, once a great web site to get decent reviews of many tech products. Like everything else it is being hollowed out to 'increase shareholder value' and focused exclusively on basically becoming spam itself.

NYT still burying the Smirnov Scandal.

I guess the actual news that Smirnov was re-arrested yesterday would be difficult to report on when you've buried the original story about the Russian agent deeply involved in both the now failed Biden impeachment investigation and the massively dubious Hunter Biden prosecution.

On the other hand the New York 'But Her Emails' Times did find space on their front page, in the midst of the Mexican presidential election, to report that ALMO was not being investigated for corruption by us law enforcement agencies, although they looked into conducting an investigation. Perhaps they can report daily on investigations that aren't being done?

Biden Is Set to Visit East Palestine, but Is He a Year Too Late?

Yet again the NYT sucks.

The president will face a politically divided community anxious over the long-term health consequences of an environmental disaster.

One year after a fiery train derailment spilled thousands of gallons of toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio, President Biden will travel there on Friday and face a politically divided community anxious over the long-term health consequences of an environmental catastrophe.

Mr. Biden, who promised to visit soon after the disaster, has faced criticism from Republicans and some residents for not going sooner. In a sign of how politically fraught the situation has become, Trump supporters planned a rally to coincide with Mr. Biden’s visit.

The 'one year too late' is a Republican propaganda campaign talking point and is being regurgitated by multiple 'news' sources.

Just reminder that our republic is facing an existential threat from the overtly authoritarian Republican Party. Trump et al have made it abundantly clear that they will do everything in their power to establish one party rule. But sure NYT, keeping pushing the talking points out. After all the important thing is to provide a 'balanced perspective'.

Global military spending hits record $2.2 trillion amid multiple wars

NATO member states are part of a global military spending spree in 2023, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
By Adam Taylor

So basically global human civilization, confronted with a systemic existential environmental crisis has decided that the best path forward is to have lots of wars.

Imagine what we could build with 2 trillion dollars a year. How about a sustainable economic system that guaranteed everyone a decent life?

Why the NYT sucks, again.

Not an Ordinary Special Election, and Yet a Typical Result

Democrats claim another victory, although it doesn’t necessarily add more clarity about November.

By Nate Cohn

(Hint: it was a 54-46 thrashing in a leans republican district.)

The narrative always finds a way to diminish Democratic accomplishments.

What would the headline say had Suozzi lost?

This is an example of why the NYT is awful

Trump Steps Up, Helping Biden Just When the President Needs Him

Donald J. Trump’s stunning statement supporting a Russian attack against “delinquent” NATO allies takes attention away from unwelcome questions about the president’s age and provides the Biden camp a useful contrast.

But in Washington, the traditional political strategy when under fire is to change the subject as quickly as possible.

And at the NYT their strategy is to undo that strategy and keep pumping the Biden dementia meme no matter what.

I'm not a fan of the stupor bowel but...

I’m really glad Taylor Swift won.
