BigmanPigman
BigmanPigman's JournalNadler said May 15th is the date to expect Mueller
to testify before the House. The DOJ has no problem with it he said and neither does Mueller SO FAR. I think that Mueller may not be an employee of the DOJ after next week, need to double check that.
Over the past two weeks Barr's fans/pundits have soured on his
"outstanding" reputation. Several attorneys and those who worked with Barr at some time in their careers have admitted their impressions of Barr are now the opposite of what they were a few weeks ago when they were giving him praise for his legal reputation and good character.
I never understood how they were fooled. Everyone on DU knew he was a shithead due to his reputation during the Bush years and the cover ups back then.

For fun...How many "b-a-r" related words can be used for Barr?
Lower the bar
disbarred
em-barr-assment
What else?
Since Mueller is still a DOJ employee, when he testifies he won't be
any longer. Rachel Maddow just mentioned this. Barr testifies Wed and Thurs this week, then Mueller is possibly going to next week. I guess Nadler will be sure to have Mueller testify when he isn't employed by the DOJ and he won't have that influence his answers. Is this how it is going to go?

Rod Rosenstein is Leaving as a Diminished Man and Shamed Lawyer
"...informed legal observers had their suspicions about him from the start. How did he get roped into writing a memo that served as the phony excuse for firing then-FBI Director James B. Comey? Why didnt he recuse himself once it became apparent he was witness to a key event in a possible obstruction-of-justice case?"
"Rosenstein talks a lot about the rule of law in very eloquent ways, former prosecutor Mimi Rocah tells me."But his recent actions signing on to Barrs letter which misrepresented the Mueller report and gave a legally indefensible and unnecessary conclusion, standing behind Barr at a press conference that was more like a defense closing argument directly threaten the rule of law, because he no longer looks like someone leading the DOJ in neutral ways. She adds that we cant have faith in decisions hes made. For him to cite Trump as a defender of the rule [of law] given the damage he has done to the DOJ and FBI as institutions is shameful.
"Constitutional scholar Laurence Tribe describes Rosensteins tenure: Self-serving. Self-protective. Filled with ethical compromise. Not exactly disgraceful. But not graceful either. Anything but heroic.
"History is not likely to treat Rosenstein well. He was weak when strength was required, cowardly when courage was called for. Hes no Mueller."

Robert Reich: Congress Should Be Ready To Arrest AG Barr If He Defies Subpoena
If Mr. Barr does not show up, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Sunday, we will have to use whatever means we can to enforce the subpoena.
"What could the Committee do? Hold Barr in contempt of Congressunder Congress's inherent power to get the information it needs to carry out its constitutional duties. Congress cannot function without this power.
Under this inherent power, the House can order its own sergeant-at-arms to arrest the offender, subject him to a trial before the full House, and, if judged to be in contempt, jail that person until he appears before the House and brings whatever documentation the House has subpoenaed."
"When President Richard Nixon tried to stop key aides from testifying in the Senate Watergate hearings, in 1973, Senator Sam Ervin, chairman of the Watergate select committee, threatened to jail anyone who refused to appear. Congress hasnt actually carried through on the threat since 1935but it could.
Would America really be subject to the wild spectacle of the sergeant-at-arms of the House arresting an Attorney General and possibly placing him in jail?"
"Probably not. Before that ever occurred, the Trump administration would take the matter to the Supreme Court on an expedited basis. Sadly, there seems no other way to get Trump to move. Putting the onus on the Trump administration to get the issue to the court as soon as possible is the only way to force Trump into action, and not simply seek to run out the clock before the next election."

"Barr, Interpreter of Justice" By R. Rosenstein

By Rod Rosenstein
U.S. Attorney General William Barr
David ButowRedux for TIME
The enthusiasm in and around the Department of Justice was palpable when President Trump announced his nomination of Attorney General William Pelham Barr. A brilliant and principled conservative lawyer, Barr brings unique experience to the challenge of working at the intersection of law and politics.
During his first stint as Attorney General, from 1991 to 1993, Barr dealt with politically sensitive cases, appointed special and independent counsels, handled delicate national-security issues, and navigated contentious congressional oversight requests. He earned widespread respect for his integrity and professionalism, and he enhanced that reputation in the private sector.
Now Barr returns to public service with a hearty sense of humor, a lifetime of wisdom and a valuable perspective about the Department of Justice. He knows the history, he understands the issues, he respects the employees, and he will defend the principles. With Bill Barr at the helm, the rule of law is secure.
