All of You DUers Alive During the Civil War

Remind me, were we also at war with North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria at the same time?

When is the Great Fixer going to fix something?

Biggest Gaslighting Campaign Ever: Democrats Are Out of Touch

Yesterday's Atlantic article discussing the WaPo poll from the previous week and all of its nuances.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/04/democratic-party-out-of-touch-obama-wall-street-speech/524784/

This is the section I'm most interested in:

There is nuance to the results of the survey. A closer look at the numbers shows that while a majority of Americans believe the Democratic Party is out of touch, most Democrats do not, though that’s only by a slim majority. Democratic voters do, however, seem to have less confidence in their party—at least at the moment—than Republicans do in theirs. A higher percentage of Republican voters, at 60 percent, said that the GOP is in touch with the concerns of most people, compared with just 52 percent of Democrats who said the same of their party.

Why do we think our party is "out of touch"? At this point in the game, you would think the majority would realize we are the party most down to earth. But it is not a comparison between Democrat and republican. Instead, it is simply our party, taken on its own, fairing against our own standards.

My personal opinion is that the low numbers do not indicate we have super high (impossible) standards of our own accord. Rather, we are and have been gaslighted into believing that our party is "out of touch" by years of republican rhetoric. We hold our party to such high standards because republican rhetoric demands that we scrutinize each toothpick thin plank in our party's platform.

Meanwhile, republicans stick their fingers in their ears when we tell them they do not represent 99.9% of America.

So I beg you to stop scrutinizing your party looking for flaws and then amplifying them when you find them. There will always be flaws of some kind, but we can correct them. The important thing to remember is that we are the party of sanity. We care.

Are You Afraid of Speaking Your Mind in Public?

Luckily, I live in a blue state, so that gives me a little comfort. However, I still don't speak much about politics in public.

Now we have an Alabama judge ruling in favor of racial discrimination because of fear of reprisal: http://occupydemocrats.com/2017/04/28/alabama-just-brought-back-school-segregation/

We have the formation of a gang called the proud boys who are ready to beat us up in the name of tRump: https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2017/04/25/new-alt-right-%E2%80%9Cfight-club%E2%80%9D-ready-street-violence

We have courts ruling that tRump himself incited his supporters to violence at his rallies: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/04/02/a-judge-rules-trump-may-have-incited-violence-and-trump-again-has-his-own-mouth-to-blame/?utm_term=.1dab62e2d507

So how does everyone else feel, especially those of you who live in deep red states? I guess it's one thing to be part of large protest and have strength in numbers; but being by myself or with my wife in a crowd of people whose ideologies and propensity to violence are unclear frightens me.

Will tRump Allow China to End NK Hostilities?

Serious question. Can he let China be the negotiator and take the credit, or is he going to attack NK no matter what? If he and the GOP condemn Iran and threaten them because they are upset that the pact made by Obama is working, how much worse must the feel that a non-western "money-manipulating" country is in the diplomatic driver's seat?

Senate Russia investigation to add 2 more staffers after pace criticized

link: http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/24/politics/senate-intelligence-committee-russia-investigation/index.html

(CNN)The Senate Intelligence Committee is hiring two new staffers for its investigation into Russian interference in the US election, the top Democrat on the Senate Russia investigation told CNN on Monday.

The additional staffers -- including one Republican and one Democrat, versed in the National Security Agency collection tactics -- come as some sources on the committee have grumbled behind the scenes about the pace of the investigation.
Sen. Mark Warner, a Virginia Democrat, said investigators obtained a large batch of documents they requested just before Congress went on break and have completed 27 interviews as part of their investigation.

"I think things need to pick up ... now that we've gotten ... through the first cut of all the information," Warner told CNN in an interview. "Our approach, which is going to continue to be methodical, though, because when you bring in some of the names that have been bandied about in the press, you don't know how many bites at the apple you're going to get. You want to make sure you ask the right questions."

A Senate intelligence committee source said Monday that Warner was frustrated with the pace of the investigation -- even as it has been viewed publicly as the more collegial investigation, when compared to the House Russia investigation. The Senate investigation has moved slowly, and without the drama of the House version, but Warner said he expects things to pick up.

Why tRump Bashing is So Disatisfying

This is a follow up to my Easter Egg role senility thread, where I concluded that no one would have behaved the way tRump did unless they had dementia. Since then, we have had the AP interview that is further proof of his mental condition.

He has dementia and a personality disorder, and he isn't coming back to reality...ever. He sees the world in binary: my team against the bad guys. There is no compromise, no bipartisanship. Either you are on board with "his" program, or you are one of the bad guys standing in his way. When I write "his" program, I mean the agenda laid out and dictated to him by his advisors. By no means does he have a single independent idea. These same advisors constantly reassure him that he is in the right, that whatever fresh hell he is signing his name to is in the best interests of the American people.

Let me come straight out and state it simply: Donald Trump believes with every fiber of his being that he is doing good by our country.

That is why we get so frustrated when he doesn't comprehend that Americans hate his guts. In his head, he is the best president ever and everyone loves what he is accomplishing. We feel like we are talking to a brick wall. We are not. We ARE talking to a mental patient.
