He expects to see them golfing in the future...ARE YOU FUCKING NUTS, MAN? Then Kornacki says something referring to him as Trump. Dickhead says "Show some respect man, he is not Trump now, he is the President". GAG ME.

2 black kids adopted by white Republicans 40 years ago
I found this very interesting.
I grew up in a WWC neighborhood with two white parents. My sister and I were the only POC. We were adopted when we were young. I have written about my family before.
I have very mixed feelings about transracial adoptions. Obviously children need homes but taking on a child of a different race comes with a lot of responsibilities and challenges. Understanding the cultural aspects is extremely important. Ironically, I think that LGBT parents are sometimes best situated in a transracial adoption because they understand being an “other”. But that is a diary for another day.
I wanted to address this idea that a person could not possibly be a racist if they voted twice for Obama and then voted for Trump.
I grew up with racist parents. Sure they adopted a two biracial kids but they certainly didn’t understand black culture. My adopted parents were evangelical Republicans white working/middle class folks. They believed they were saving two “black” kids from a ghetto life. My father religiously listened to Rush Limbaugh.
They were soft racists. I never heard the n word growing up but there was always this idea that because we were being raised in “white” culture that it was somehow an improvement from our original background. My adoptive mother would complain about our “difficult” hair. We had no black friends or any minority friends until I got to junior high. We had to leave a church after my Sunday school teacher used a racial slur that went uncorrected or noticed until my sister protested that she was never going back. We regular were stuck in situations where we were the only black kids for miles. We constantly heard about what nice kids we were despite our foster care background. My black boyfriend from college got an eye raise even though he was better educated than my entire family.
I also grew up with the working class mentality in Central California. When I announced I was going to Harvard in the seventh grade, my mother laughed and said I would go to the local community college like everybody else. Where did I get these fancy ideas from? After I went away to Berkeley of all places, I was the snotty liberal who came home and looked down on everyone... (There was probably a bit of truth to that when I was younger). God, I spent most Thanksgivings and Christmas trying to get them to see the errors of their ways.
Immigration has slowly become a bigger and bigger deal. Central California is agricultural land. The big middle of nowhere. Not much industry outside of farming. Farm hands were never a big deal because those weren’t the sort of jobs WWC wanted anyway. But a generation later, immigration has affected the makeup of Central California. Spanish is regularly spoken. Suddenly the “help” now had their own business. Construction, landscaping, shops...pretty much any traditional white working class job now had competition from immigrants making the transition to middle class. There is this idea that immigration is fine as long as it doesn’t displace traditional WWC jobs. The black population of the Central Valley is fairly low so competition from that arena isn’t seen as significant.
I went to school with these disgruntled WWC guys. Hell I dated a few of them. They were the popular jocks who didn’t do well in school at an already failing HS. After HS, they went into jobs that didn’t require a 4 year university. Almost everyone farted around in CC for a while. There were a few that went from CC to 4 year universities. We all are approaching 40 now and they look around and wonder why they aren’t to where their dads/moms were. Brown people now occupy jobs that their parents had. Again no one is screaming racial slurs at each other but the tension is there and it shows up at places like the ballot box. Very easy to blame the “others” for why you haven’t quite made it.

There is absolutely economic anxiety but the core of the anxiety is that it’s more readily affecting white people. It’s always been there for POC and segment of the WWC but now that pain is being felt everywhere now. It isn’t that Clinton didn’t address these needs. She did but Trump made them front and center. Diversity is fine as long as it doesn’t affect your place at the front of the line.
It isn't that we need to talk less about "identity politics" issues, it's that we need to be clearer that a shared table doesn't mean that your topic is being ignored.
And we continue our fight against soft racism. In some ways soft racism is more damaging than a hard core racist. A hard core racist, I know what I’m getting up front. A soft core racist is much more disappointing because it usually coming from a person that we like or respect.

I ignored Xmas this year, but Xmas did not ignore me. I got this gift reminding me of WHO WE ARE.
I had the worst Xmas in 65 years, but sent this to my progressive group today.
Good Afternoon all, I ignored Xmas this year and refused to watch any of the themed movies on tv. So I was going thru old tapes and oh my god, put one in and started crying. It was the night our 14 ran to IL. Ed Schultz had them on and did the whole show about WI. Shell shocked, each one spoke. Julie sitting there in her maroon sweater with the belly, 7 months pregnant with darling Lily, etc... the shock and disgust was thundering. Just thundering. Disbelief. Kind of how where we are now. Just brings home how it all went down and how we still held out hope, fought HARD and what did it get us. But the bravery of our state and lawmakers made me just bawl. It was hideous and raw but beautiful at the same time. DEMS are so good, how do we show that tape to our whole state.....EVERY DAMN DAY.
To think that the Rs used this in their mailers to beat Julie is unbelievable. How she RAN from the state.
And the fact that MS RNC still had ethics and did stories like this. Ed covered the WI story for months each day and broadcast from Madison. Then they dumped him. Truth is gone now. If we even have any media left, it will be all fluff.

Hands down, the worst Christmas in my 65 years
I am disabled and work for Progressive every day of my life, esp. for poor elderly and disabled folks. The most vulnerable, we will get hit hard and hit first. We have no $$ for lobbyists. A single person with a pension of $10Grand a year will go to $5Grand a year. No one can live on $5grand a year. In Walker's Wisconsin a single adult gets $16 a month in FoodStamps. Lucky to be on Medicare. If Cheeto fucks with that, we will all be dead. I still cry at the drop of a hat. Rallied some with recounts and EC miracle. Out of miracles. Living in Wisconsin, we know how it will go down. IT IS BAD. Everyone will have to live in a shit country, but at least they will still have roofs, and autos and money and medical options. Not us. Sorry for whining, but needed to say it out loud here. Have to pretend to have some hope for my people, for their sakes. But I do NOT.

With the coming cruelty of the Republican Congress’ all but certain repeal of Obamacare and the denial of medical care to even their own family members, I have been despondent about the future. You see I have Crohn’s Disease, a severe and chronic illness, which insurers would not touch in the era before Obamacare. In the era before Obamacare, it was hard to find a job because the medical debt that showed up on a credit check was an indication of an illness—an illness which would dramatically increase the amount an employer had to pay for health insurance. To me, a repeal of Obamacare is being relegated to the shadows once again by society. It will make my life very, very difficult.
I have been thinking about how we can restore Obamacare or pass something even better if the Republicans act out the cruel nihilism of Ayn Rand now that they have attained power. I do not trust Chuck Schumer, who just two years ago called Obamacare an error, to do the right thing and bring the Affordable Care Act back if Republicans repeal it. Senator Schumer, being the politician who cares more about longevity than doing the right thing, won’t restore the Affordable Care Act because of what happened in the past. This is despite the fact that a repeal of the Affordable Care Act is sure to cause mass layoffs in the health care sector and would likely prompt a recession.
We need to give Schumer’s opponents within the Democratic Caucus the power to pressure, and drag, him into doing the right thing for the 52 million Americans who are like me and won’t be able to get health insurance or a job because of their pre-existing condition after forthcoming repeal of Obamacare.
Republicans plan to repeal Obamacare with just 51 votes, despite the fact it took sixty votes to pass it, by using the parliamentary trick of budget reconciliation. If Republicans set the precedent that it only takes 50 votes to change existing health care policy, Democrats should make it clear that the next time they have the majority they too will use budget reconciliation to make major changes to health care policy. However, instead of using that power to make people’s lives more difficult, Democratic Senators will use that power to make people’s lives easier. Democratic Senators shoud sign a letter which says the following:
“if the Republicans use budget reconciliation to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the precedent that it only takes 50 votes to make major changes to health care will have been set; the next time Democrats have the majority in the Senate, we will use the budget reconciliation process to lower the eligibility age for Medicare from sixty five years old to one day old. In short, if Republicans take the unprecedented step of repealing the Affordable Care Act with 51 votes, we firmly believe that a precedent that will allow us to pass Medicare for all with 51 votes will have been set. And because we believe that our constituents should not have to sleep on broken arms and go without the dignity of medical care for their ailments, we will pass Medicare for All with 51 votes the next time we are entrusted with a Majority in the Senate.”
Please contact your Senator and ask them to stand up to unprecedented Senate rule changes by the Republicans in their never ending effort to make the lives of their constituents more difficult.
