Harvey Weinstein indicted on charges of rape, criminal sexual act

Source: CNN

(CNN)A New York City grand jury on Wednesday indicted movie producer Harvey Weinstein on charges of rape in the first and third degrees and first-degree criminal sexual act, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said. Weinstein, 66, was arraigned last week on the same charges, seven months after women began to come forward with stories alleging sexual misconduct by the famous Hollywood producer. Weinstein, who intends to plead not guilty, according to his attorney, remains free on $10 million bond.

The charges stemmed from incidents with two women in 2013 and 2004 and were the result of a joint investigation between police and prosecutors, according to the Manhattan district attorney. Weinstein is accused of forcing one woman to perform oral sex on him on one occasion between June and September 2004, the criminal complaint said. The alleged rape took place on March 18, 2013, the complaint said.

"This indictment brings the defendant another step closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged," District Attorney Cyrus Vance said in a statement. "The defendant's recent assault on the integrity of the survivors and the legal process is predictable." The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to Vance.

George Zimmerman to court: I have no job, no assets, and owe $2.5 million

A court allowed George Zimmerman to use a public defender in his alleged stalking case after he filed documents saying he’s $2.5 million in debt and has zero income. Zimmerman is facing stalking accusations in his latest legal woes since his 2013 acquittal in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Details of his finances were filed in a Seminole County court to support his request for a public defender. In the documents, he lists that he’s unemployed and has $0 in assets including cash, bank accounts and equity on property. Zimmerman is accused of repeatedly threatening and harassing Dennis Warren between December 16 and December 25 of last year, the sheriff’s office said.

Warren is a private investigator who was hired by a production company that was working on a documentary about Martin’s life, according to CNN affiliate WKMG. Deputies said Zimmerman called Warren 55 times, left 36 voicemails, texted him 67 times and sent 27 emails over a nine-day span, according to the affiliate.

This is just the latest in a lengthy list of legal issues for Zimmerman. He was a neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Florida, in February 2012 when he shot and killed Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old.

Parents go to court to evict 30 year old son

Camillus, NY -- Two Camillus parents are going to state Supreme Court to force their 30-year-old son out of the family residence.

"After a discussion with your Mother, we have decided that you must leave this house immediately," father Mark Rotondo wrote his son, in a letter filed with the court.

But son Michael isn't going anywhere without a fight.

The parents' lawyer, Anthony Adorante, said today that the couple is having trouble with their son and didn't know any other way to get him out. The couple declined comment for this story.

Michael has, so far, ignored their demand to leave, according to the court complaint.

Drug Users Take Over Corridors Of San Francisco Civic Center BART Station

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — Shocking video is calling attention to what’s going on in one of the busiest BART stations in the Bay Area: drug users blatantly shooting up out in the open as commuters walk by, others slumped along filthy corridors. It’s a gauntlet commuters walk through every morning at the Civic Center BART and Muni station.

Regular commuter Shannon Gafford knows people have to see it to believe it. “One morning I said, ‘I got to pull out the camera and show my friends this. They’re not going to believe it,’” he said. And over the course of a week, Gafford documented his trip to work. His videos show dozens of people slumped along a hallway, open IV drug use, unconscious men and women, and piles of vomit on either side of the hallways. Some may find the video shocking. Others may find it routine.

“Every day. Every morning. 5:30 to 6 o’clock. You can see there’s dozens of them. Needles everywhere. Crack. Heroin.”

“It’s a real concern for our riders, and we appreciate that,” said BART spokesman Chris Filippi. “But what we have to do is make the most of the resources, the limited resources that we have.”
