The three issues I believe will decide the election and why Trump loses on each of them.

The three issues that I believe will decide the election.

RACISM
I sense a sea change. I feel the protests have really highlighted a problem that many in America have been blind to. Polls now show that at least three in four people think racism in America is big problem. That's a big jump, and Trump is on the wrong side of public opinion. That is a hit on Trump's support and I believe his approval is heading back to 40%. More people have woken up to Trump's inability and unwillingness to do anything as he panders to his base. This is a moral issue, a question of right versus wrong, like healthcare should have been a moral issue, and most people think Trump is wrong. He will never be serious about police reforms. His strongman act appeals to his hard base, but not to the majority of Americans.

Trump 0, Biden 1

PANDEMIC
The spread of infections is not under control, with many states recording their highest levels of new cases in just the last few days. This will be the number one news story again as cases and deaths rise over the coming months. Blaming China and running ads linking Biden to China is risky for Trump, because all Biden needs to do is play Trump's praise of China's handling of the virus before it became politically expedient to have a scapegoat. It isn't hard to lay the blame on Trump for ignoring the problem, ignoring social distancing, bungling the response and urging states to reopen too soon. Like police brutality, the contrast between a vain, posturing Trump and an empathetic Biden will become clear to more people.

Trump 0, Biden 1

ECONOMY
Trump still leads on the economy, but I believe this will change before election day. When he took credit for the jobs report yesterday, he made it clear that he "owns" the economic recovery. His bragging makes it hard to shrug off responsibility when the revised report is released with a higher figure and we find that future months are still grim. To pretend that everything is rosy won't wash. When people have spent their stimulus or their savings, there will still be a lack of jobs, disproportionately affecting ethnic minorities. Some of these jobs are gone forever, businesses have folded, and many people still won't want to get on planes, go to movie theaters, etc. Covid is still here and still spreading. That means America is in a much worse position than other nations who have brought the spread under control. It is going to be a horrible time for tens of millions, and the debate about closing down again and more help for those in economic hardship will heat up. Also, Wall Street is unsustainable. It is nearly back to where it was, and that defies the facts that the recovery will be slow and unemployment is going to be high for years. The stock market cannot keep climbing.

Police Unions Chief proves he is intolerant to change or criticism in his attacks on Joe Biden.

The angry reaction by the Police Unions Chief to Joe Biden and his support of police reforms to address systemic racism, proves that the police are institutionally racist from the very top, cannot tolerate criticism, are resistant to change, and want to play politics to serve their own interests.

The executive director of the National Association of Police Organizations said Thursday that former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has gone “off the deep end” in his calls for reform.

Bill Johnson, the executive director of the association that serves as an umbrella organization for Police Benevolent Association chapters, said the former vice president “kept moving left” in his rhetoric on law enforcement.

Johnson’s comments align with other police union officials who say they are disappointed with Biden’s lack of support for law enforcement during the protests over George Floyd’s death, Politico reported.

“Clearly, he’s made a lot of changes the way candidates do during the primary process, but he kept moving left and fell off the deep end,” Johnson said.

“For Joe Biden, police are shaking their heads because he used to be a stand-up guy who backed law enforcement,” he added, according to Politico. “But it seems in his old age, for whatever reason, he’s writing a sad final chapter when it comes to supporting law enforcement.”

They tear-gassed and used rubber bullets against a peaceful crowd, was this legal?

All so Trump could do a photo op. Okay there's dispute whether it was tear gas or pepper spray, either way, this is an abuse of power. No president should treat the people this way.

Is "I was just following orders" an acceptable excuse or is there grounds for prosecution against those who were responsible?

Hundreds of Facebook employees walk out in protest of inaction over Trump's "shooting starts" post.

Hundreds of Facebook employees on Monday staged a “virtual walkout” in protest of the company’s policies regarding recent posts by President Donald Trump.

Employees took to Twitter to publicly announce their participation in the protest, referring to the virtual walkout with #TakeAction. These employees expressed disappointment and shame in the decision by Facebook’s leaders to leave up a Thursday post from Trump in which the president said that “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

As many as 600 employees partook in the virtual protest, estimated one employee who spoke with CNBC. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to hold a town hall with employees on Tuesday to address the situation, the employee said. This person asked not to be named discussing internal matters with press.

Thousands in the UK protest against Floyd murder. As a Brit, now in USA, I have two observations.

Thousands of people have gathered across central London to protest against the killing of an unarmed black man by police in the US.

They held up signs saying "Justice for George Floyd", who died in police custody while an officer kneeled on his neck to pin him down.

Police arrested five people aged between 17 and 25 outside the US Embassy.

Three of the arrests were for breaching Covid-19 legislation and two were for assaulting police.

As a British ex-pat, now American, I am shocked at what has happened to both the UK and USA. Two leaders who look like Putin is pulling their strings, who are intent on destruction and division (although Trump is in a different league) and have been the worst possible leaders to have during a crisis. This is the context of my observations.

1/ I have never seen anything like this in my life, as far as protests involving America. Yes, there have been demonstrations in the UK about War in Vietnam, Iraq, and most recently about Trump, but this is extraordinary - protests in the UK about discrimination in America.

Although I don't doubt the sincerity of genuine protesters, and am grateful the solidarity for the black lives movement, considering that Boris Johnson looks like another Putin puppet, I ask if Russia was involved in urging people to attend the protests on social media.

2/ Please refer to the pictures in the article. I have been told by friends and family how the UK doesn't have official guidance about wearing masks. This confirms it, and the photos show that although many protesters have educated themselves to wear masks, the police set a poor example.

Some of the photos show a barrier of police officers, standing shoulder to shoulder. Not one police officer wears a mask, although they are arresting people for not social distancing - this is pathetic. It is easy to see why the UK has been so badly hit by the virus and has the second worst death toll in the world, second only to America.

Is Trump's puppet master, Vladimir Putin, behind social unrest in America?

To be clear, we are not talking about peaceful protest, but violence and destruction.

Susan Rice Blames ‘Foreign Actors’ for Stirring George Floyd Protests: ‘Right Out of the Russian Playbook’

Former Obama adviser Susan Rice has blamed the violent protests that rocked major American cities over the weekend on “foreign actors,” and even suggested that Russia could be involved in stirring them up.

“I’m not reading the intelligence today, or these days — but based on my experience, this is right out of the Russian playbook,” Rice, who served as national-security adviser to president Obama, said in a CNN interview on Sunday. “But we cannot allow the extremists, the foreign actors, to distract from the real problems we have in this country that are longstanding, centuries old, and need to be addressed responsibly.”

Anchor Wolf Blitzer responded, “you’re absolutely right on the foreign interference.” Blitzer then asked Rice if she thought the Russians were attempting to “embarrass” the U.S. by “promoting the racial divide in our country.”

“Well we see it all the time, we’ve seen it for years, including on social media where they take any divisive, painful issue . . . and they play on both sides,” Rice said. “I would not be surprised to learn that they have fomented some of these extremists on both sides on social media . . . [or] that they’re funding it in some way, shape, or form.”
