What's the goofiest thing your pet has ever done?

I have a kitty that used to step on the speed dial button for 911 on my desk. After the cops showed up at my doorstep 3 times, I decided I could dial two extra buttons!

I had a wonderful Borzoi for 12 years. She was super smart. One day she watched me sorting out okra from the garden, then sidled up and stole one. After deciding it was not to her taste, she brought it back and laid it on the table again.

What's yours? Photos optional.

Zinnia Question

Anyone ever have zinnias self-seed from the previous year? I didn't think they could do that, especially through a Zone 7 winter. But weeding the area of my garden where I had a bunch last year, it certainly looks like zinnia seedlings. Can't decide whether to yank them out or not.

Robots Take Over The Apparel Production

Adidas, the German maker of sportswear, has announced it will start marketing its first series of shoes manufactured by robots in Germany from 2017. More than 20 years after Adidas ceased production activities in Germany and moved them to Asia, Adidas unveiled the group’s new prototype “Speedfactory” in Germany. As of this year, the factory will begin large-scale production. What's more, Adidas will also open a second Speedfactory in the U.S. in 2017, followed by more in Western Europe. According to the company, the German and American plants will in the "mid-term" each scale up to producing half a million pair of shoes per year.

Cost of an Industrial Robot: €/$ 5 an hour

German robot maker Kuka, acquired last year by China’s Midea, estimates a typical industrial robot costs about 5 euros an hour. Manufacturers spend 50 euros an hour to employ someone in Germany and about 10 euros an hour in China. Rather than seek out an even cheaper source of labor elsewhere - in another emerging Asian economy, say - Chinese manufacturers are choosing to install more robots, especially for more complex tasks. China isn't getting rid of the work, just the workers.

Several excellent graphs here.

Re-Homing a Horse

I have a cute little Quarter Horse mare, that showed up with a gelding, at my barn when I was still out in CA. They were starving, wormy, with sores, and nylon halters embedded in their noses. I only meant to get them rehabbed, and then find other homes for them.

That was several years ago. I ended up moving them with my other horses from CA back to KY. I placed the gelding (35 years old, and hardly any teeth left) with a friend as a companion to her old gelding. He's still in great shape, and doing very well. I still need to re-home the mare. I have ridden her previously, but she was trained Western. I ride dressage. Have not had time or energy to re-train her for a discipline for which she's not really suited. I want her to go to a home that only wants her as a pet or companion, or is willing to put her back into professional training for a tune-up. She's not a kid horse without that. We think she's about 20 years old. She's about 14 hands, healthy, with good feet, all vacc's and worming current. Bright chestnut with white markings.

I am in southwestern Kentucky. Please email me privately for more info and photos. Sorry, Photobucket can't seem to rotate this photo.
