Docreed2003's JournalA song for the resistance...
May we keep up the fight, even when it feels like were losing; may we provide each other strength, even when we are on the verge of collapsing ourselves; may we provide a shoulder to cry on in times of despair, even when we are crumbling from our own sorrows; and may we never lose hope...
Freedom isnt lost yet...
Brian Williams interpretation of the Black Belt
Brian Williams just said...its remarkable that the map shows that Doug Jones took the Black Belt, which he said referred to the topsoil. Jesus Christ Brian!! Wtf man!!?? Yeah, maybe people in the 19thC referred to that area for the topsoil but heres a NEWSFLASH bro, that area in modern times is known as the Black Belt because of the large population of African Americans, largely as a result of the history of slavery in that area...you know, because of that fertile topsoil you referred to. A representative of the UN has recently remarked about how shocked they were at the level of poverty in the Black Belt of Alabama. So, fuck you, Brian, for your ignorant comment...(Sorry, that comment by Williams just pissed me right off)
Our new fur baby....
Our family lost a fur baby this year and weve been feeling the loss for weeks. We recently were walking through our local pet store picking up a few things for our shi-tzu when I felt a nose nuzzle me on my side. That was the moment we were introduced to the soulfulness of the greyhound. We made a decision to adopt a racing greyhound and our journey of adoption came to fruition on Saturday. At the end of our home visit, Id love to tell you that we chose our baby, but, in fact he chose us. Our baby boy, Dylan, has been an amazing addition to our family. Hes still getting used to his knew home, but hes already bonding to his fam. I couldnt help but share a pic of this amazing animal with you guys!
Fall smells...
Its finally getting colder here. I just stepped outside to take the dogs out and the crispness in the air was a nice feeling. The extra gift was the smell of wood burning fireplaces coming from down the street. Its one of those smells that takes me back to childhood...a smell that evokes so many memories. Just thought Id share.
The best in modern country music....
A dedication to my lovely bride....(if youve never heard of Jason Isbell, go check him out. He and his wife Amanda Shires, whos also his backup singer and fiddle player, are incredible. It also helps that Jason is a liberal and vocal about his beliefs!)
Anyone watching the CMAs tonight...lets pull for one of our own...Jason Isbell
Isbell has been around a while, most famously associated with Drive By Truckers. The guy is a phenomenal singer/songwriter. If you dont know his music and like traditional or alt-Country or Americana...I cant recommend him enough. Hes an outspoken liberal, and his album Nashville Sound is up for album of the year...despite being an independent album and not being pushed by a major label. Saw him recently at the Ryman in Nashville and it was unbelievable. Also, his wife Amanda Shires , who also sings backup and plays fiddle for him, is an incredible artist in her own right!
The night I saw him at the Ryman, they had invited the local ACLU to have a table in the lobby...freaking awesome!
Heres taste from Nashville Sound
Horror fans...need some help
Last Sat night, I went to a midnight showing of Rocky Horror and prior to the movie they showed a short film that, for the life of me cant find any info about online. It was essentially a horror spoof about a lunch date and it featured over the top bloody special effects, like the utensils in the cafe coming alive and killing people...including a lady that got a faceful of forks and one actor that was killed twice... and spoofs of other films like psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Alien. It was so ridiculous and hilariously low budget I was hoping to find it online but Im not having any luck. I believe it was called Lunch Horror or something to that effect??! Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Even in the era of Trump....theres always Rocky Horror
Last night, early morning, I had the privilege of again experiencing the midnight showing of the late night, double feature picture show that is Rocky Horror at the historic Belcourt Theater in Nashville.
Nashville may be a blue dot in a sea of evangelical/fundamentalism, but damn that blueness was a welcome refuge last night, which speaks to the spirit of what makes Rocky so special.
An hour before the show opened, people were lined up outside the theater, many in costume, despite the unusually cold fall night.
Prior to the show, the lead actor read a statement from the shows organizer which essentially laid out what made/makes Rocky, in that the midnight shows were always a safe forum for people of all backgrounds: Gay, straight, trans, weirdos, freaks, geeks to be themeselves, without judgement. That sense of belonging and empowerment was, for some, first experienced at those midnight shows. That feeling of community was especially appreciated, at least for me, last night. To hear a theater full of folks cheer when the impromptu call out of Is Donal Trump a White Supremacist?...to which The Expert replied That is a fact, to overwhelming audience laughter....and Dr Frank N Furter was ask What do you think of President Trump, it was incredible to hear the roar of the crowd as Tim Curry glibly said I think we can do better.
As the show let out at nearly 2am, it felt like the end of a family reunion of long lost family members. Folks were hugging and laughing and cheering as we went back into the reality that is our daily lives. It was an irreligious, offensive, unrepentantly glorious gathering, yet the evening...err early morning, was a great inspiration and reminder that , even here in the Buckle of the Bible Belt, the home of the Southern Baptist Convention, and...hell, even a gathering of white supremacists that was shut down by protest earlier in the day....even here, the resistance is alive and thriving.
