Every authoritarian uses purges to "purify" the Party.

This purification process guarantees that the authoritarian leader will never hear any dissent no matter how insane the leader's ideas are.

If Trump could, many Democrats would already be in prison.

Yes, the Party is in severe disarray.

A multitude of candidates. No clear winner, and now, the debacle of the Iowa caucuses and still no real idea who won.

Has there ever been a Party in such disarray?

I am speaking, obviously, about the GOP in 2012.

But the media, the supposedly liberal media, quickly forgets what happened to conservatives last week, much less 8 years ago.

And so, we are treated to an endless series of articles, and tweets, and op-eds insisting that the Democratic Party is in total meltdown.

Our response should be to use this as inspiration to go out and register new voters, help voters check if they are still registered, and reach out to the large mass of uninformed and general uninterested potential voters.

My view.

Edited to add: My post is a sarcastic reply to the US media figures who insist on a double standard.

Sherrod Brown Says GOP's Fawning Over Trump Is Like Watching A North Korean Military Parade

From the article:

In a discussion with the ‘Hardball’ host, Brown said the cult-like behavior of the GOP was on full display during Trump’s State of the Union address this week when Republican lawmakers immediately turned the affair into a full-blown MAGA rally.

“You look across their side of the aisle and the way they stand and cheer for damn near anything that Trump says when he wants them to stand, just in unison,” the Ohio senator said. “I know State of the Union speeches are sometimes like that, but never, never, ever to this degree and I’ve been to 20 of them over the years.”

For all of those here who speak of despair, and the end of things, please remember one thing.

THE GOP IS AFRAID OF US. YES, THEY ARE AFRAID OF DEMOCRATIC VOTERS!!!

Why do I say this? That is easy to answer.

What has the GOP been doing since 1968?

They have been cheating in elections.

They have been suppressing the vote every place they can.

They have been buying up media outlets and using these outlets to distort their positions, and to distort ours.

They have been deliberately lying about GOP positions on nearly every issue because they recognize that most voters disagree with GOP positions.

They are using racism, and appeals to religion, and appeals to chauvinism in an attempt to divide and conquer.

If the GOP really represented a majority viewpoint, they would have no reason to lie and cheat and steal.

Despair is never an option because the only way the GOP can win is if we the people give up.

Now that Vermont GOP Gov. Phil Scott has joined Mitt Romney, and criiticized Trump,

is this the beginning of an "I am Spartacus" moment among GOP politicians?

Or will all the GOP cowards watch as Scott and Romney get dragged off and crucified by Trump's legionnaires?

February 7, 2020

It is sad that Mitt Romney, the 47% man, is the only GOP Senator with any integrity.

We all remember the video of Romney speaking to a room of his rich supporters and complaining that 47% of the population would never vote for him because they were takers.

And of course, when Romney used the word takers, he was not referring to the financial industry recipients of trillions in quantitative easing, or to be honest, corporate welfare, nor was he referring to the huge corporate farm owners who receive so much in corporate welfare.

Nor was he referring to people like Jeff Bezos, or the Walton family, or the Trump family. What they take from the taxpayers is never called welfare, or subsidies. Those terms are reserved for the always undeserving victims of US conservative economic policies.

But all of that aside, out of 53 GOP Senators, 52 showed a complete lack of integrity, and showed their cowardice, and their lack of any feeling for this country.

The US corporate, conservative media is owned by people who support Trump.

Not support in the sense that every owner voted for him, or will vote for him, but support in the sense that they will rarely officially notice that Trump lies repeatedly.

The media owners are very rich, and they will never personally suffer from any of Trump's actions. Tax cuts for the rich benefit the media owners, as do tax cuts for corporations.

And rich media owners never worry that their votes will be suppressed, or that their children will be locked in cages on the border with Mexico.

For all that Trump screams about the liberal media, and the fake news, this supposedly liberal media created Trump, created the myth of Trump the successful businessman.

And the media generally downplays protests against Trump, or "balances" a 5,000 person anti-Trump march with equal time given to a handful of pro-Trump sign carriers.

And the same media that never wrote about the GOP in disarray when there were 18 candidates in 2016 will obsess over the fact that there is still more than one candidate on the Democratic side.

When the GOP proposes yet another tax cut for the rich, rarely will the US media examine the fact that supply side economics is lunacy. Instead, it is treated as a legitimate economic theory that just happens to always explode the deficit and debt, while, coincidentally, making the rich far richer.

Joe Biden Rips Trump For Giving Rush Limbaugh The Medal Of Freedom

From the article:

Biden said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, “In one fell swoop, Trump delivered a speech worthy of the worst demagogue and turned his constitutional obligation to inform Congress about the state of our union into an episode of reality television. He even awarded our nation’s highest civilian honor, not to the real American hero in the gallery — one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen—but a conservative media personality who has done as much as Trump himself to divide our nation. It was a shameful display.”

Activist William Barber II urges blacks in Congress to mobilize poor voters

From the article:

The Rev. William Barber II brought his message about supporting the needy to the Capitol, urging an “emergency convening” hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus to mobilize poor voters in the upcoming election.

“There’s no way we can inspire people to move with the normal politics that doesn’t fully address poverty,” said Barber, co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign and the keynoter on Tuesday (Feb. 4) at the caucus’s National Black Leadership Summit.

“When you can work a full-time job at minimum wage and still not be able to afford a two-bedroom apartment anywhere in this country, that’s poor. And if we can’t see that and if we don’t acknowledge that poverty then we are refusing to call upon these witnesses among us.”

And studies show that poorer voters are less likely to vote, which helps the GOP efforts to depress voter turnout. If we can mobilize the 47%, or a fraction thereof, to vote consistently, we can insure that the GOP will be a permanent minority Party.

Democratic presidential hopeful Tom Steyer on faith, climate change and who goes to heaven

From the article:

Billionaire businessman-turned-climate-activist Tom Steyer has emerged as an unexpected player in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, recently polling among the top contenders in South Carolina. Known for his environmental advocacy, Steyer, like other candidates, has made a point of referencing his faith often while on the campaign trail — and even referred to religious activists while on the debate stage.

Still, less is known about Steyer’s personal approach to matters divine. He spoke with Religion News Service to discuss his faith, how it intersects with his policy agenda, and the overlap between religion and politics in the United States. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
