C Moon's JournalStrange post, I know...I had a dream that I worked for Bernie last night (I know dreams are boring)
I was assigned as a temp to work for Bernie Sanders.
He was a lawyer (maybe a senator), and his office was outside. His outside area sat in a yard near some old motel that had been turned into low income apartments. He had stacks of files and paperwork all over the ground, and some sitting on a long buffet table.
When I showed up, Bernie was kneeling on the ground going over some papers. He handed me a stack of papers, and said he wanted me to organize them.
The papers were collectable pictures, stickers, etc that were given to him by an older black lady whom he was assisting.
The lady was trying to put her son or grandson through school and had given them to Bernie in hopes that these collectibles would help in getting her some money.
As I was thumbing through them, Bernie told me that when she first gave them to him, he didn't think they would be worth anything, but he was surprisedafter looking up some of the artifactsthat they were worth over $20,000. I recall looking at some of them and seeing old stickers, posters, pictures. It was pretty cool.
I put them in a manilla folder and placed them on the banquet table. I then left because my work day was over.
As I was headed home, I remembered that I had left the lady's $20,000 of collectibles out on the table and I was worried they would be stolen. $20,000 gone because of me!
I hurried back and started looking for them in the stacks of files on the buffet table, but couldn't find them.
And that's how it ended.
It was great working for Bernie, though. And sorry Bernie, I hope you find that manilla file!
Lightning strike in Echo Park, Los Angeles (July 18, 2015)
I saw this picture on FaceBook this afternoon.
In Southern California, we are having a very rare July rain storm pushing through (remnants of hurricane Dolores, I believe).
There was lots of lightning and heavy rain in many parts (including at my home in the San Pedro areamore to come, too I hear).
Someone in Echo Park (an area just outside of Hollywood) posted this picture of a poor palm tree who was a bit too tall, and took a hit from lightning.
'Gang mentality' of middle-age surfers keeps outsiders off Palos Verdes Estates waves

Jose Lopez, a 38-year-old fisherman from Bell, stepped gingerly to the bluff's edge.
He scanned the trail where, for years, beachgoers who don't live in Palos Verdes Estates have complained that they get bombarded with rocks thrown by a local surf tribe that calls themselves the Bay Boys.
He noted that from the beach, 100 feet below, he would not be able to see the parking area, where outsiders' cars have been vandalized.

Middle-aged adults pelting visitors with rocks, and vandalizing cars.
Many of these high income Palos Verdes residents have the mentality that they own these beaches, and it should be no surprise that their police department looks the other way.
"The Living Room Candidate" - Presidential Campaign Commercials 1952-2012
http://www.livingroomcandidate.org/commercials/1952I found this last night while looking for old campaign commercials. I sifted through these videos, etc for a few hours.
I'm sure it's been posted here before, but for anyone who's not seen it...sift away!
Calif. Drought: "Water District Confirms Tentative Settlement In Tom Selleck Water Dispute"
Actor Tom Selleck has reached a tentative settlement with a water district over allegations he stole truckloads of water during Californias historic drought.
The Calleguas Municipal Water District in Ventura County claimed Selleck was siphoning water from a Thousand Oaks hydrant to his Hidden Hills Valley Ranch, a 60-acre ranch where he grows avocados.

California Lawmakers Block Bill To Regulate E-Cigarettes
Source: CBS Los Angeles
SACRAMENTO (AP) A legislative panel has opted not to take up a bill aimed at curbing youth smoking by regulating e-cigarettes in California after a heated hearing.
A separate measure calling for the legal smoking age to be raised to 21 was pulled from the agenda just before Wednesdays hearing by the Committee on Governmental Organization.
Committee members first amended the e-cigarette bill by Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco, gutting its proposal to regulate electronic cigarettes as tobacco products. That prompted the Democrat to urge a no vote on his own bill.

I live in L.A. and I FINALLY saw a segment on the news about Bernie!
CBS Los Angeles channel 9 spoke of his growing popularity, and they played snippets of an interview with him.
It was great!
Now let's see if the L.A. Times will have an article about Bernie.
Pathway to "billionaires beach" in Malibu set for opening
http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2015/07/07/pathway-to-billionaires-beach-in-malibu-set-for-official-reopening/
I was looking at that gate, and it appears to have a lock.
It's open an hour before sunrise, and closes an hour after sunrise.
So these billionaires have a private stretch of California beach in the evenings.
