Ukraine launches counteroffensive to break Russia's hold on major southern city

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has called on Russian troops in Kherson to retreat, warning that they will be “annihilated” if they remain in the city.

Ukraine has been laying the groundwork for weeks, amassing forces and weaponry, and now it says it is making gains in the country's south.

Bolstered by newly acquired long-range weapons from the West, the country's forces, which long vowed to launch a counteroffensive, have destroyed key Russian targets in the Ukrainian city of Kherson.

Russian troops are “virtually cut off” by the counteroffensive, which is “gaining momentum,” the British Defense Ministry said in its daily intelligence briefing Thursday.

Any freelance folks here ever dealt with a client who won't pay a bill?

I did some graphics work for a client who's been stringing me a long for over four months now.
Each time, there's an excuse for why they didn't pay me.
Latest was a kind of "checks in the mail." It's been almost three weeks, and the deposit wasn't made.

I'm now guessing they are having money problems and putting others before me (because I'm being nice).

Should I send an invoice charging more money if it's not paid by a certain date?

Thanks for any help. This really took me off guard.

It's 100% obvious now that the rich live under a different set of laws.

If I had done 1% of what tfg, bannon, desantis, bush, cheney, etc did, I'd be arrested, standing before a judge, standing before a jury and then doing prison time—no questions asked.

I think the reason nothing is being done about it is that the rich are running our country in all three branches.

Mass shooting reported at San Pedro park, City on tactic alert

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – Early reports are coming in that a mass shooting has occured at a park in San Pedro.

Paramedics are en route to a location near a car show at Peck Park 560 Western Ave. in San Pedro, where four people have been shot, says Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The victims were at the park for an annual car show.

At first I thought it was a gang hit, but the latest I heard was the shooter(s) were wearing tactical gear (vests). Some say they heard 20 shots being fired into a crowd.

This was a couple miles from my home. We walk our dog their often.

Update: There was a dispute at a car show, so it appears the shooting was related to that dispute. It appears it wasn't a random shooting.

Millions in U.S. and Europe face extreme heat as wildfires break out

Brutal and dangerous temperatures are being felt from California to Massachusetts, with more than 120 million Americans under excessive heat warnings or advisories. The National Weather Service said that more than 60 new record highs will be set across 20 states by the end of the week.

As temperatures soared into the triple digits, Hoover Dam experienced a major power scare when a transformer explosion sent smoke billowing. The dam supplies power to California, Nevada and Arizona.

West of Dallas, an intense heat-fueled wildfire burned a number of homes as temperatures reached 111 degrees. The fire was about 10% contained with 4,000 acres burned as of Tuesday evening, according to officials.

A few months ago, I recall DU announcing to be aware of upcoming President Biden bashing.

It's happening here now.
And there doesn't seem to be any stopping it.

Today I was shocked at some of the obvious posts and comments that were taking shots at President Biden in an obvious rightwing nut job effort to make him look weak—setting up a defeat in the midterms.

FaceBook is filled with it now. Twitter is filled with. And now DU is filled with it.

I guess a lot of people forgot about tfg's years. To me, it was like living in a horror Twilight Zone episode—and I will NEVER forget.
The gop is trying to make President Biden look bad, in the same way they did with President Carter.

Who of you out there, would rather have Biden or Carter than tfg or DeSantis?
