CNN's Jim Acosta and John Avlon compared notes on Republicans speaking on raising the debt ceiling over the weekend only to realize that the far-right members refuse to support the deal between Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden.
Acosta cited an interview he conducted Saturday with Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), who said he's voted for shutdowns and would vote again this week.
After ranting about cutting spending, Acosta said, "Well, you can have the argument about cutting spending during the budget and appropriations process, but as you know, Congressman, the U.S. has never missed making payments on its bills before. In the last 45 years, Congress has raised the debt ceiling 65 times. So, again, I go back to the question: is it responsible — I understand what you're saying about how much your daughter spends, but we're not talking about $15. We're talking about the American economy. Is it responsible to be the deciding vote to send the country into default?"

12-Year-Old Shoots Sonic Employee In The Back With AR-15

Residents in the small town of Keene, Texas, were shocked after a 12-year-old boy was arrested for repeatedly shooting a Sonic employee in the back with an AR-15 rifle. Multiple people called 911 to report a shooting in Sonic's parking lot just before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Fox 4 reports:
According to police, this started when 20-year-old Angel Gomez of Fort Worth arrived at the Sonic with others in his vehicle.
Gomez allegedly began urinating in the back parking lot, so Davis came outside to speak to him.

A former NFL player appears to be behind threats against a California lawmaker.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Ca.) on Wednesday received a threatening tweet that said: “Almost time !!! Would you rather Guantanamo or just execution (expletive) traitor” with emojis indicating laughter.
The tweet was sent by a person named Bruce Miller whose name Swalwell didn’t immediately recognize.

Ex-congressman welcoming Trump reelection with 'reckless' third-party candidate effort: columnist

A South Carolina newspaper columnist on Tuesday blasted a former local Democratic congressman over his public support for the No Labels campaign that he contends will lead to a second Donald Trump term.
The Post and Courier’s Chris Kenney assailed Joe Cunningham after the former congressman authored an op-ed the outlet published Saturday in support of No Labels, which supports centrist, bi-partisan policies and politics.
Cunningham, who represented South Carolina’s 1st congressional district from 2019 to 2021, argued that President Joe Biden’s plummeting poll numbers warrant a third-party candidacy. He cited a recent ABC News-Washington Post poll that showed Trump leading Biden by seven points.

It’s easy to make fun of Donald Trump’s brain vomit unleashed on CNN Wednesday. But one of his Big Fibs is seriously threatening the 2024 election. Trump said,
"If you look at True the Vote, they found millions of votes on camera, on government cameras, where they were stuffing ballot boxes. … Look at what happened in Atlanta, millions of votes, and all you have to do is take a look at government cameras. You will see them, people going to 28 different voting booths to vote, to put in seven ballots apiece. I mean, and they’re all on camera.”

Trump’s claim of one guy stuffing ballots into “28 voting booths” (he meant, absentee ballot drop boxes) comes, as he says, from the Texas group of self-proclaimed vote fraud vigilantes True the Vote, producers of the film 2000 Mules, premiered by Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
