Before cutting a red ribbon with oversized scissors Thursday afternoon, President Donald Trump touted his administration’s progress in cutting regulations, saying he wants to return the federal government to the level of regulations that existed in 1960.
Over the past 11 months, the Trump administration has canceled or delayed more than 1,500 planned regulatory actions, “more than any previous president, by far,” the president said at a White House event. “We’re going to cut a ribbon because we’re getting back below the 1960 level and we’ll be there fairly quickly,” he said.
Trump pledged to cut the Federal Regulatory code back down from more than 185,000 pages in 2017 to the 20,000 pages it was in 1960. A progress update on the administration’s regulatory rollback was contained in the semi-annual Unified Regulatory Agenda published by the White House Office of Management and Budget Thursday afternoon.

Paul Ryan says American women need to have more babies

During a news conference on Thursday, House Speaker Paul Ryan urged American women to have more babies, saying their lack of procreation was stunting economic growth.
“People — this is going to be the new economic challenge for America. People,” Ryan said, in response to a question about entitlement reform.
Alluding to the fact that he’s a father of three, Ryan added, “I did my part, but we need to have higher birth rates in this country. Meaning, baby boomers are retiring, and we have fewer people following them in the work force.”
“We have something like a 90 percent increase in the retirement population in America, but only a 19 percent increase in the working population in American,” the Speaker continued. “So what do we have to do? Be smarter, more efficient, more technology — still going to need more people. And when we have tens of millions of people right here in this country falling short of their potential — not working, not looking for a job, or not in school getting a skill to get a job — that’s a problem.”

What America's highways truly need: More highway traffic tolls
Virginia’s recent introduction of high-occupancy tolls (HOT) on Interstate 66 near Washington, D.C., has angered some commuters and politicians. But since gridlock frustrates millions of commuters every day, the introduction of flexible road pricing will help solve this national problem.
Commuters are delayed in traffic an average 63 hours per year in the 15 largest urban areas of the United States. Washington, D.C., is the worst among these, averaging 82 hours. Even in smaller metro areas, with populations under 500,000, commuters are delayed an average 30 hours per year.
Any economist knows that congestion, like long lines, signals a shortage at the legal price. The price for using most roads is zero. Drivers all pay the same gas and excise taxes whether they use a busy highway or an empty stretch of country road, whether they drive at rush hour or late at night. We have a shortage of road space because people do not pay to use roads based on scarcity of space relative to demand.

In my opinion why can't the taxpayers have workers from the highway department charging this fee and maintaining the road
1) The road is already paid for by the taxpayer
2) Why give this source of income to a third party entity taking a piece of the proverbial pie to charge the taxpayers to maintain the already made system, costs are lower when it is done in house
3) This form of semi-privatization of taking the funds from the taxpayer is wrong, the state can hire human beings to process this money and keep it in house and work the toll road and maintain it, the taxpayers of the already made highway are now in essence paying two bills for one road, it is like a hidden tax, the lost operating costs fee may look good, because it is off the state books, but the toll goes up

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai appeared Wednesday in a video promoting his impending net neutrality repeal, dancing with a woman who has a history of promoting the so-called "Pizzagate" conspiracy.
The baseless Pizzagate conspiracy theory, which proliferated during the final days of the 2016 presidential race, posits without evidence that high-ranking Democrats were involved in a nonexistent pedophile ring based out of a Washington, D.C. pizzeria. In December 2016, a man motivated by the conspiracy theory fired a gun in the business.
The video, produced by the conservative Daily Caller, features Pai insisting that the FCC's impending, highly criticized repeal of net neutrality will not affect what users can do online.
In one clip, Pai is seen dancing alongside Martina Markota, a video producer for The Daily Caller.

Republicans bury anti-LGBTQ provisions in massive higher education bill

A massive (542 pages) higher education reform bill proposed by House Republicans would write anti-LGBTQ discrimination into the law in the disguise of “religious freedom.” H.R. 4508, authored by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), contains two provisions clearly designed to enable discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, even if it doesn’t refer to those specific terms.
The bill’s name, “Promoting Real Opportunity, Success, and Prosperity through Education Reform” (the PROSPER Act), suggests it creates opportunities, but a section called “Campus Access for Religious Groups” would add a new provision to the law that would guarantee that student groups can refuse membership or leadership positions on the basis of their identity:
None of the funds made available under this Act may be provided to any public institution of higher education that denies to a religious student organization any right, benefit, or privilege that is generally afforded to other student organizations at the institution (including full access to the facilities of the institution and official recognition of the organization by the institution) because of the religious beliefs, practices, speech, membership standards, or standards of conduct of the religious student organization.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A day that began with elation ended discouragingly for six young people who face decades in prison for being present at anti-Trump demonstrations on Inauguration Day.
On Wednesday morning, lawyers for the six won Judge Lynn Leibovitz over to their argument that government prosecutors have failed to offer sufficient evidence to support one of the eight separate charges in the case.
Calling the government’s argument for keeping the incitement charges “utterly circular,” Leibovitz struck them from the case. The decision still left seven other charges in place for each defendant, including multiple other felony counts. But in striking the felony incitement charge over Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Kerkhoff’s objections, the judge significantly reduced the maximum penalties each defendant faces should jurors find them guilty.
