'Flower Moon' film song is an ode to endangered Osage language

LOS ANGELES, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Songwriter Scott George is looking forward to the performance of the Osage Nation song "Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)" at the 96th Oscars ceremony on March 10.

The song is featured in the final scene of the Oscar best-picture nominee “Killers of the Flower Moon,” a drama directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Indigenous actor Lily Gladstone and Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio.

“The song itself is telling our people to get up,” George, a member of the Osage Nation, told Reuters during a rehearsal of the Oscar-nominated song at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the rank of Colonel General of the Internal Service to Deputy Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service Valery Boyarinev.

The decree on the increase was signed on February 19, three days after the death of opposition politician Alexei Navalny in prison.

Fellow oppositionist Ivan Zhdanov called Boyarinev’s promotion “Putin’s outright reward for torture.” “Boyarinev personally supervised the torture of Alexei Navalny in prison. The restriction of Alexey’s bills for the purchase of food, like all other tortures, was Boyarinev’s personal order from the Federal Penitentiary Service,” Zhdanov wrote .

'Faucet! Dishwasher! Water! Bad!': Trump ruthlessly mocked for town hall rant

Former President Donald Trump went into a rant about dishwashers at his Fox News town hall with Laura Ingraham on Tuesday evening — the latest in a long string of times he has complained about the low water pressure on newer, energy-saving fixtures and appliances.

"They come out with faucets where no water comes out," said Trump. "You know, if you go and buy a home, and they know what I mean, the showers, you stand under a shower and there's no water coming, and you end up standing there five times longer ... so in Ohio, you have this great company that came to me, a dishwasher company, one of the biggest and finest companies, but they were going out of business. They said, we're not allowed to use water."

Confused commentators on social media reacted on X with laughter and amazement at what the Republican frontrunner was choosing to treat as a policy issue.

'Two strikes': Experts say Aileen Cannon is getting closer to being recused

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Donald Trump appointee whose decisions have raised concerns about bias toward the former president, might have finally gone too far, wrote legal experts Norm Eisen and Joshua Kolb for Slate on Tuesday.

What's more, special counsel Jack Smith might be gearing up to ask the appellate court to step in and get rid of her.

This new analysis comes shortly after Cannon ordered Smith to turn over information to the defense team, despite Smith laying out compelling evidence that it could be used to put people in danger.

John Fetterman Doesn't Hold Back On 'Peckerhead' Rand Paul

With the tragedy of Putin's murder of Alexei Navalny, it's LONG PAST TIME to have less patience for traitors among us. For the Tucker Carlsons, Mike Johnsons & Donald Trumps--the over half of the Republican Senate Caucus who voted against aiding Ukraine in its existential fight for survival.

So it was refreshing to see Senator John Fetterman, who's proven again and again he will not put up with Republican bullshit, hit Rand Paul for doing Vladimir Putin's dirty work.

Paul, in his naked attempt to aid a murderous dictator (this has been a family trait, btw, his dad took Russia's position on Crimea and was anti-NATO, his campaign manager and Nephew-in-Law was convicted of funneling Russian money to Trump) used every procedural method he could to try and block the Ukraine funding bill, including making Senators come in on the day of the Super Bowl.

New Word At Dictionary.com: 'Greedflation'

'Greedflation' Among New Words Added to Dictionary.com. The word, said one advocate, "rightly identifies who is responsible for this inflation crisis and opens up the range of policy solutions we have at our disposal to fight high prices and deliver relief for families."

Several of the 1,700 new or updated definitions Dictionary.com added to its online catalogue of terms on Thursday were inspired by recent news events.

"Climate breakdown" was identified by the website as "the collective effects of harmful and potentially irreversible trends in climate, specifically those resulting from unchecked global warming," while "energy poverty" is "a lack of adequate access to safe, affordable sources of electricity or fuel for warmth, light, cooking, etc."

Another, "greedflation," was informed by growing evidence that has shown in recent years how rising prices are not always the result of supply chain woes or other market pressures, but can be "caused by corporate executives or boards of directors, property owners, etc., solely to increase profits that are already healthy or excessive."

Supporters of the jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny have accused Google and Apple of capitulating to Kremlin pressure after the two tech companies deleted his tactical voting app from their online stores.

Both companies had come under significant pressure from Russian regulators in the days before the country’s parliamentary elections to block access to Navalny’s Smart Voting initiative, which tries to channel opposition votes toward the strongest opponents of the ruling party, United Russia.

Google and Apple were accused of election interference by Russian officials amid a larger standoff between the Kremlin and big tech over how much control Russia’s authoritarian government can have over information disseminated inside the country. The Kremlin said on Friday it welcomed the apps’ removal.

And yesterday Alexei Navalny is dead.............I also keep thinking of the countries that still do and have economic meetings with Russia if they also have in some sense this death on there hands, because after all they are enabling this murderer and his regime..........I truly believe that the 300 billion that the US has in sanctions money being held by this country against Putin should be given to Ukraine so they can buy the military and economic needs to defeat the murder of Alexei Navalny.............
