A person comes to the United States under the pretense of being a temporary visitor. That person travels using a travel visa under which the person is prohibited from working while in our country. That person flouts the rules and works during the time here anyway. Later, that person gets a green card and eventually becomes an American citizen. When the press discovers the inconsistencies in the person’s proclaimed immigration history, the person is evasive, and threatens the press rather than clarifies the history. Eventually, that person uses citizenship to obtain green cards for other family members, all while continuing to be secretive about the manner by which it was accomplished.
This may be the story of the Knavs family — Melania Trump (née Melania Knavs) and her parents, Viktor and Amalija Knavs. Through an attorney, the Knavses confirmed that they recently received lawful permanent resident cards – but when asked how they qualified for those green cards, their lawyer flatly refused to provide any details. Details here are conspicuously absent, a characteristic that seems to pervade Melania Trump’s narrative when it comes to immigration.

NRA head lashes out at gun control advocates: 'They hate individual freedom'
Wayne LaPierre, the head of the NRA, broke his silence a week after the Florida school shooting with an unrepentant defence of gun rights and an aggressive attack on political elites who “hate individual freedom”.
LaPierre used his address to the conservative conference CPAC to hit out at anti-gun campaigners, who, led by young survivors of the shooting, have attempted to make political headway in the last week.
“They fantasize about more laws stopping what other laws have failed to stop,” the National Rifle Association executive vice-president said. “So many existing laws were ignored.”
He added: “They don’t care if their laws work or not. They just want to get more laws to get more control over people. But the NRA, the NRA does care.”

Marco Rubio is a very talented politician. He walked into an arena full of 7,000 Floridians who were determined to heckle him for siding with the National Rifle Association (NRA) for his entire career.
But within minutes of talking, he earned some respect. He didn’t stop the heckling, but he did his very best impression of a sincere man who honestly wanted to keep children safe, if only there weren’t so many complications to this whole lawmaking thing.
There are apparently lots of guns, and lots of loopholes. How on earth can a little law tackle such a big problem?
He offered up some token concessions that would do not very much at all to stop the massacres: raising the age you could buy an assault weapon, but not banning them. Better background checks, but not universal ones. Stopping the sale of bump stocks, which played no part in the bloodshed at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school.

Mueller files new charges against ex-Trump aides Manafort and Gates

The special counsel investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin has stepped up pressure on the former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, by filing new sealed court charges against him.
Reuters saw a court record referring to the sealed charges, which were also directed against Rick Gates, Manafort’s former business associate, but the documents provided no details on the nature of the charges.
It was not clear if the charges involved alleged bank frauds the special counsel’s office referred to in a bail hearing for Manafort on Friday, in which he is said to have doctored profit and loss statements from his firm, in order to get a mortgage on a property in Virginia. NBC News reported on Wednesday that Manafort was being investigated for having allegedly promised a Chicago banker a job in the Trump White House in return for $16m in mortgages for properties in Virginia, New City and the Hamptons.
Manafort, who was Trump’s campaign manager for almost five months in 2016, and Gates, who was deputy campaign manager, were indicted by the special counsel, former FBI chief Robert Mueller, in October. They face charges including conspiracy to launder money, conspiracy to defraud the United States and failure to file as foreign agents for lobbying work they did on behalf of the pro-Russian Ukrainian Party of Regions. Both have pleaded not guilty.
