Staffers in the Trump White House largely find themselves estranged from the Washington, D.C. social scene.
No one will date them, and some restaurants wont serve them.
The primary safe space for thirsty young Trumpers has been the hotel bar at the Trump Organizations hotel inside the Old Post Office building at 1110 Pennsylvania Avenue, a few blocks from the White House.
Residents of the District of Columbia filed a complaint challenging President Donald Trumps liquor license based on his bad character, reports Huffington Post.
Like a lot of states, Washingtons Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has provisions requiring that licensees not be criminals. A citizen complaint goes over the many things Trump has credibly been accused of, pointing to Mr. Trumps lack of good character. The complaint points out that Trump has been accused of sexual assault and paid $25 million to settle claims of fraud against Trump University.

Collins' office received 3,000 coat hangers protesting Kavanaugh
Source: The Hill
BY TAL AXELROD - 09/08/18 12:43 PM EDT
Activists have sent Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) three thousand coat hangers, referencing back-alley abortions, in their efforts to persuade her to vote against the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
The mail-ins accompany TV ads aimed at swaying the senators vote and pledges to fund her Senate opponent in 2020 if she votes to confirm Kavanaugh, the Associated Press reports.
The centrist Collins is seen as a critical swing vote in Kavanaughs confirmation hearing and has said she wouldnt vote to confirm a nominee who was hostile to Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that legalized abortions.
She said Kavanaugh during a meeting told her he considered the case to be established precedent. However, critics are concerned about a recently revealed email from 2003, from when Kavanaugh worked in the Bush administration, shows Kavanaugh said the Supreme Court can always overrule its precedent.

A Collins spokesperson told the AP the email didnt change the senators mind about what Kavanaugh had told her.
I always wait until after the hearings are complete before making a decision, and Ill do so in this case as well, Collins, who has never voted against a Supreme Court nominee, told The Associated Press in an interview.
So she endorses, this BS and his BS and also endorses a person that committed PERJURY........................and she is a United States Senator.............that is suppose to enforce the rule of law....................what exactly am I missing here.....................this is outrageous.....................
The US must settle its constitutional crisis before it confirms Kavanaugh
Jill Filipovic
Donald Trump is now in a position where he is selecting a judge who may eventually judge him a clear conflict of interest
Trumps US supreme court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is certainly competent at dodging difficult questions. In his confirmation hearing in Congress this week, he was asked for his opinion on Roe v Wade, the supreme court case that legalized abortion nationwide. His answer was that its an important precedent. It has been reaffirmed many times. But will he reaffirm it? He wont say even in light of leaked emails that suggest he doesnt think Roe is settled law at all, and that the US supreme court could overturn it.
That slipperiness should be enough to reject him as a justice, but there are other reasons, too. The United States is perched on the edge of a constitutional crisis, led as we are by an unstable wannabe authoritarian who is at the center of a web of criminality, and is himself under investigation and not for a petty matter, but for potentially selling out American democracy to a hostile foreign power.
This president is now in a position where he is selecting one of the judges who may eventually judge him a clear conflict of interest if there ever was one. Its a highly unusual situation, but it is a crisis. And it means that Kavanaughs confirmation any confirmation to the supreme court must be put on hold.
This is the point made in a recent paper by legal scholars Laurence Tribe, Judge Timothy Lewis and Norman Eisen in a paper for the Brookings Institution. They rightly point out that the body that could wind up adjudicating some of the most crucial issues of the Trump investigation is the same one Trump is currently hand-picking a judge for. The president is under criminal investigation. Do we really think that same president should be picking a judge who may ultimately decide, for example, whether the president can pardon himself?

Sheriffs who cheered Trump's attack on press have their own media run-ins
A group of sheriffs gave the president a troubling ovation after he called journalists very, very dishonest. Here is a taste of local media scrutiny of 10 of them
Donald Trump whipped up another rowdy ovation from a friendly crowd this week with an attack on the media, accusing journalists of being very, very dishonest and refusing to give him credit for his purported achievements.
But rather than the usual sports stadium packed with partisans in red baseball caps, this tirade against the press was applauded by dozens of senior law enforcement officials in the splendour of the East Room of the White House.
The episode unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, after the New York Times published an article by an unidentified senior Trump administration official who claimed to be one of many working to thwart Trumps worst inclinations and frustrate his agenda.
Some figures in law enforcement were dismayed by the sheriffs response to Trumps remarks.
They are supposed to be leaders, not puppets who cheer attacks on the media, said Michael Bromwich, a former federal prosecutor. A shameful scene.

Scientists get ready to begin Great Pacific Garbage Patch cleanup
Ambitious project will involve a massive floating barrier that aims to collect up to five tonnes of plastics every month
A team of scientists and engineers will on Saturday begin an ambitious cleanup of plastics in the Pacific Ocean targeting a stretch of water three times the size of France known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
A 600m-long floating barrier will be launched off the coast of San Francisco and, powered by currents, waves and wind, will aim to collect five tonnes of plastic debris each month.
The marine apparatus known as System 001 is the brainchild of the Dutch inventor Boyan Slat who founded The Ocean Cleanup at the age of 18 in 2013.
Along with 70 staff he has spent the last five years testing 273 models and six different prototypes as part of the $20m (£15.5m) Netherlands-based project before arriving at the current design nicknamed Wilson in reference to the famous volleyball from the film Castaway.

Stolen Memos Case Prompts Call For Kavanaugh's Impeachment

In a tightly argued and powerful article for Slate, a Democrat who was one of the victims of a document theft related to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaughs time in the White House argued Friday that the judge should be impeached.
Kavanaugh, Lisa Graves argued, repeatedly lied to Congress under oath about his involvement with the stolen materials.
She noted that just receiving the documents, which she says were taken by GOP Senate aide Manuel Miranda isnt an impeachable offense. Graves said that Miranda stole the confidential memos, letters, and talking points, some of which she personally wrote, which were part of the Democrats private communications about blocking President George W. Bushs controversial judicial nominees. Some of this material was passed on to Kavanaugh, though he says he wasnt aware that the documents were stolen.
This, Graves said, is implausible. Kavanaugh almost certainly would have known this material was not supposed to be in his possession. But things get even worse for the Supreme Court Nominee.
Graves argued that even after the theft was revealed, Kavanaugh has still claimed, under oath, that he had nothing to do with the stolen documents. She wrote:

GOP might have even fewer women in Congress next year thanks to Trump
Dan Desai Martin 07 Sep 2018
Trumps odious nature and personal brand of racism, sexism, and xenophobia has encouraged thousands of women to run for office around the country. However, Trump and Republicans have little reason to celebrate.
The number of Republican women in the House is actually poised to decline, says NBC News, noting that Democrats would be primarily responsible for the vast majority of women in Congress, including most of the 30 and 40 new women are on track to enter Congress next year.
Even with a decline in the number of Republican women in Congress, NBC News says more than 100 women could be in Congress in 2019, which would be a new record.
NBC notes that the number of women running is clearly a backlash to President Donald Trumps election.
Yeah, no kidding. Earlier this year, Republican operatives were actively advising Republican women not to run in 2018 because of Trump.

GOP bails on pledge not to use stolen emails to attack opponents
By Eric Boehlert - September 7, 2018
Republicans refuse to rule out help from Russians.
Republicans blew up long-running negotiations with Democrats this week, after both sides worked quietly for months to come to a bipartisan agreement not to use hacked or stolen information in the upcoming campaign season.
In a proposal that had been on the table, both parties agreed not to help any hacking efforts and not to search out hacked or stolen materials, and they also agreed to report any contacts with foreign operatives to law enforcement.
The GOPs decision to abruptly end talks only fed the complaint by Democrats that Republican lawmakers have resisted bridging partisan divisions in the two years since Russia began its brazen attack on the American political system, the New York Times reported.

'Birther king' Jerome Corsi will not testify before grand jury Friday despite Mueller subpoena: repo
BRAD REED

Jerome Corsi, the conspiracy theorist best known for falsely claiming that former President Barack Obama forged his birth certificate, will not be appearing before a grand jury on Friday, despite being subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller.
Buzzfeed News Zoe Tillman reports that Corsis attorney now says his client will not testify in front of the grand jury, even though he claimed earlier in the week that Corsi would comply with the subpoena.
Earlier this week, Corsis lawyer told us he was trying to set up a separate sit-down with Muellers office, which could make a grand jury appearance unnecessary, Tillman reports. But his lawyer isnt commenting now on what happened.
Corsis attorney, David Gray, told New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman that Corsi would be asked about his discussions with Mr. Stone, who appeared to publicly predict in 2016 that WikiLeaks planned to publish material damaging to Hillary Clintons presidential campaign.
