Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh began his testimony at a hearing examining allegations that he sexually assaulted a young women in high school with an angry, 45-minute long rant.
The judge was emotional, shrill, hysterical, and he would have looked so much more attractive if he’d smiled.
He also revealed himself as a staunch partisan. Kavanaugh, who denied in a previous day of testimony that he is a “Republican judge,” twice looked over at the section of the room where Democratic senators sit and singled them out as his enemies. “I love teaching law,” Kavanaugh raged, “Thanks to what some of you on this side of the committee unleashed, I may never be able to teach again.” He added that “thanks to what some of you on this side of the committee have unleashed, I may never be able to coach again.”
The Supreme Court nominee also claimed that “the behavior of several of the Democratic members of this committee at my hearing a few weeks ago was an embarrassment.”
Kavanaugh is accused of attempted rape by psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford, who testified under oath that he sexually assaulted her. Though many Senate Democrats indicated that they believe Dr. Ford, they are not the source of the allegation.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Glued to high-stakes testimony on his Supreme Court nominee, President Donald Trump and his allies were shaken by Christine Blasey Ford’s emotional appearance on Capitol Hill Thursday, but heartened by Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s forceful pushback against the woman who accused him of sexual misconduct.
Trump missed hardly a moment of the proceedings, relying on DVRs to keep up on the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday from his private office on Air Force One as he traveled from New York to Washington, and continued monitoring back at the White House, where Ford’s voice echoed from TVs around the building.
Within moments of the eight-hour proceedings concluding, Trump tweeted his approval of Kavanaugh’s performance and called on the Senate to move swiftly to a vote. “His testimony was powerful, honest, and riveting,” Trump said. “Democrats’ search and destroy strategy is disgraceful and this process has been a total sham and effort to delay, obstruct, and resist. The Senate must vote!”
At a GOP fundraiser at his Washington hotel later Thursday, Trump described the hearing as “brutal” and “hard to watch” but praised Kavanaugh’s performance. He described Kavanaugh as a “great guy” and a “great man,” according to an attendee who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to describe Trump’s speech publicly.
Ford’s tearful recounting of allegations that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were in high school, led Trump to express sympathy for Kavanaugh and his family for having to listen to the testimony, according to two Republicans close to the White House but not authorized to speak publicly about private conversations. They added that Trump expressed some frustration at the process — and the staff work — that led Kavanaugh to this point.

Brett Kavanaugh says he's innocent and 'welcomes anything' that could prove it. So why is he refusing to support an FBI investigation?
Despite insisting on his innocence, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh refused at least 19 times on Thursday to call for an FBI investigation into the credible allegations of sexual assault that have been brought against him by multiple women.
During his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Kavanaugh repeatedly denied the accusations that he sexually assaulted several different women during high school and college, saying he “would welcome anything” to prove his innocence.
But when asked if he would welcome an FBI investigation into the matter, Kavanaugh changed his tune.
On at least 19 occasions, Kavanaugh was asked to commit to calling for the FBI to reopen its background investigation and look into the claims of sexual assault that have emerged in recent days and weeks.
And at least 19 times, he refused.

At least half of the world’s killer whale populations are doomed to extinction due to toxic and persistent pollution of the oceans, according to a major new study.
Although the poisonous chemicals, PCBs, have been banned for decades, they are still leaking into the seas. They become concentrated up the food chain; as a result, killer whales, the top predators, are the most contaminated animals on the planet. Worse, their fat-rich milk passes on very high doses to their newborn calves.
PCB concentrations found in killer whales can be 100 times safe levels and severely damage reproductive organs, cause cancer and damage the immune system. The new research analysed the prospects for killer whale populations over the next century and found those offshore from industrialised nations could vanish as soon as 30-50 years.
Among those most at risk are the UK’s last pod, where a recent death revealed one of the highest PCB levels ever recorded. Others off Gibraltar, Japan and Brazil and in the north-east Pacific are also in great danger. Killer whales are one of the most widespread mammals on earth but have already been lost in the North Sea, around Spain and many other places.

GOP senator: Not sure I believe Christine Ford, but she's 'attractive'

Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch’s treatment of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford has been a disgrace.
Since she came forward with her story that Brett Kavanaugh tried to rape her in high school, Hatch has accused her of being “mistaken” and “mixed up,” while also saying that even if her allegations are true, he still thinks Kavanaugh is a “good man” anyway.
Even listening to Ford’s heartbreaking testimony on Thursday isn’t enough to convince Hatch that she is telling the truth.
“It’s too early to say,” Hatch answered when a reporter asked whether he found her convincing. But it’s not too early for Hatch to comment on her looks.
“I think she’s attractive, a good witness.”
Asked what he means by attractive, he responded, “In other words, she’s pleasing.”

Amazon training videos coach Whole Foods staff on how to discourage unions
The Guardian obtained internal videos sent to Whole Foods management, coaching them on how to watch for unionizing
Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market has stepped up its efforts to crack down on union activity among employees – instructing managers to watch out for warning signs of union activity and to tell possible union members that joining a union is a “roll of the dice”.
Following a mass email sent out on 6 September by Whole Foods employees seeking to coordinate with one another to discuss workplace issues and the prospect of forming a union, Amazon released training videos for managers in an attempt to head off union efforts.
The Guardian obtained Amazon training videos first reported by Gizmodo that were recently sent out to Whole Foods store management and team leaders (department managers), coaching them on how to union bust within their stores.
“Bargaining is a roll of the dice. Things could get better for associates, but they could get worse or stay exactly the same,” said one cartoon character in the training video.
In another segment, the narrator noted a character could have blamed General Motors’ bankruptcy as a symptom of labor unions.

After a third woman comes forward with horrifying allegations about Brett Kavanaugh, even one of his most prominent defenders is dialing it down.
The Judicial Crisis Network, a conservative group that has been heavily promoting and defending Brett Kavanaugh, seemed to soften its support of the embattled Supreme Court nominee on Wednesday.
Appearing on MSNBC, Carrie Severino, chief counsel of the Judicial Crisis Network, wouldn’t say definitively if Kavanaugh should be confirmed in light of the third woman who has come forward with allegations of sexual assault.
“I think we have to look into this further, but I think from what we know so far, we don’t have corroboration yet, and so I think if the Senate votes on this soon, I think they would have to go on what they know so far,” she said, when asked about the looming confirmation vote.
