Colorado GOP attacks women for supporting wildly popular family leave

By Eric Boehlert - September 28, 2018

Why would Republicans target family leave benefits right now?

In Colorado, new GOP campaign mailers went out recently targeting three key Democrats in toss-up state Senate districts.

The advertisements warned that Jessie Danielson, Brittany Pettersen, and Faith Winter are out of touch with voters because they support a proposed bill to create a statewide fund for paid family leave benefits for working Coloradans.

“The advertisements allege that support for the family-leave program by Danielson, Pettersen, and Winter shows that they are too partisan and should be defeated in November’s election,” The Colorado Times Recorder reported.

The move comes as the GOP tries to maintain control of the Colorado Senate, where it holds just a one-seat majority.

Danielson, Pettersen and Winter are running in three of the five key toss-up races that will likely determine control of the upper chamber next year.

Trump official caught OKing family separation plan she said didn't exist

By Dan Desai Martin - September 28, 2018

More lies emerge about the family separation program that callously ripped apart immigrant families.

Contrary to the lies told by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, the Trump administration knew exactly what it was doing when it instituted its cruel policy of tearing families apart, leading to the abhorrent baby jails and other atrocities revealed over the summer of 2018.

A newly uncovered memo, signed in April, shows the Trump administration was fully aware of what its “zero tolerance” border policy would do to families. According to Buzzfeed:

Nielsen signed off on the option to prosecute all adults who crossed the border illegally, including those with kids, knowing it would lead to family separations. The administration’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy, which sought to prosecute every adult caught crossing the border illegally, resulted in thousands of families being separated, with some parents being deported without their children.

Even though the memo was signed in April, Nielsen blatantly lied about the policy both in conversations with reporters and on social media. On June 17, 2018, almost a month after signing the memo, Neilsen wrote, “We do not have a policy of separating families at the border. Period.”

So the Vanilla Queen #3 is basically full of right wing racists shit.

I just wonder if this person ever put her self in someones else shoes....................I fucking doubt it.............

GOP congressman: Ripping families apart looks bad but I'm still for it

By Dan Desai Martin - September 28, 2018

Rep. Scott Perry is still defending Trump's family separation policy, though he said 'the optics of it are simply awful.'

Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) continues to use misinformation to defend Trump’s unconscionable family separation policy, even as he laments the “optics” of the policy.

Perry, a member of the far-right Freedom Caucus, recently appeared on a local news program and was asked directly about the family separation policy implemented by the Trump administration over the summer.

While he first paid some lip service, saying he sympathized with immigrant families, Perry quickly pivoted to a fear-mongering defense of the program, relying on misinformation regarding human trafficking.

“A lot of times, these children that come, these minors that come, aren’t with their parents to begin with,” Perry said. “Their parent had given them to a coyote or a trafficker and they are bringing them up to the border.”

The “high levels of human trafficking” myth is a long-debunked Trump administration talking point that is disproved by the administration’s own data.

According to a Washington Post analysis of data from the Department of Homeland Security, barely one-half of 1 percent of families who approach the border involve individuals pretending to be a child’s parents.

SO Perry would you be on board if someone doesn't like your policies or politics , and are American citizens, do you think they should be rounded up and placed in interment camps.....................racist asshole

Indicted GOP congressman spews racist rant after his morning in court

By Dan Desai Martin - September 28, 2018

Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter said Muslims are 'disgusting,' spouted white nationalist talking points, and tried to link his opponent to Islamic terrorists.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) spent his Monday morning in a federal courthouse for a status update on his indictment and his Monday evening spewing racist anti-Islamic nonsense to a room full of supporters.

Hunter spoke to a group of about 70 people at the Intermountain Republican Women Federated, first reported by the Times of San Diego.

“Radical Islamists are trying to infiltrate the U.S. government,” Hunter claimed without any evidence. “You have more Islamists run for office this year at the federal level than ever before in U.S. history.”

Hunter is correct that a record number of Muslims are running for office, but his claims of radicalized Muslims seeking to infiltrate the government is based on racism, not reality.

Hunter did not try to hide his animosity toward Muslims, at one point declaring, “They are disgusting.”

Senate Judiciary Committee advances Brett Kavanaugh's nomination

Sen. Jeff Flake called for the full Senate vote to be delayed.

Less than 24 hours after hearing testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford about allegations that she was sexually assaulted by Judge Brett Kavanaugh in the 1980s, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Friday to send Kavanaugh’s nomination for the Supreme Court to the Senate floor.

The committee advanced Kavanaugh’s nomination by a vote of 11-10. Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) voted in favor of the nomination, with the caveat that the floor vote be delayed to allow for an FBI investigation, drawing protests from several Republican members. The committee recessed before they could vote on Flake’s motion.

Flake, believed to be a swing vote on the committee, announced early Friday morning that he would vote in favor of the nomination.

He appeared to change his mind midway through the committee meeting during a rare break in the anteroom, hours after being confronted by rape survivors in the Senate halls, who pleaded with him to reconsider. When Flake returned, he echoed the calls of Democrats in demanding that the committee delay the vote to allow the FBI to investigate allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh.

-snip-

Republican Sens. Orrin Hatch (UT) and Lindsey Graham (SC) appeared livid throughout Thursday’s hearing, both erupting in angry monologues on behalf of Kavanaugh.

“What you want to do is destroy this man’s life, hold this seat open, and hope you win in 2020,” Graham screamed at the committee. “When you see [Supreme Court Justices Sonia] Sotomayor and [Elena] Kagan, tell them that Lindsey said hello … because I voted for them.”

Hey Graham...................both of the justices where never accused of sexual assault, and just for reference..........all the documents where given to the committee to have it examined by the senators and the public................so go to hell.................

Steve King's Democratic challenger is snapping at his heels

With dogged determination and an affable style, J.D. Scholten might just be in with a chance against the infamous GOP congressman.

SIOUX CITY, IOWA — Iowa’s 4th District is not exactly what you’d call ideal territory for a first-time Democratic congressional candidate.

During the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump trounced Hillary Clinton throughout the district. For the past 16 years, it has been represented in Washington by far-right, anti-immigrant Republican Congressman Steve King.

The strength of that conservative support is on full display at a diner in the town of Cherokee, where Fox News blares in the background and a sign reading “I stand for the flag and kneel for Jesus” hangs on the wall as decoration.

In a few hours, King’s Democratic challenger, J.D. Scholten, will hold a town hall. A paltry 12 people have said they will attend on the event’s Facebook page. But at the event at least three dozen people are present, a pleasant surprise to Scholten’s campaign.

Women lawmakers stand in protest as male GOP senators rush vote on Kavanaugh

Democratic women protested the vote inside the hearing room.

SEP 28, 2018, 10:52 AM

The 11 white male Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday rushed to bring Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination up for a vote. Women lawmakers reacted by standing, walking out, and speaking out in protest.

When committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) called to move the committee vote up to 1:30 pm Friday, Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) refused to answer. Then, Harris and three other Democratic senators walked out of the hearing room.

Meanwhile, Democratic members of the House stood up during the hearing in protest. As police threatened to remove them from the room, one lawmaker reportedly said: “If you touch us… I’d like to see that.”

One of the lawmakers, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), wrote on Twitter that she was sitting in the hearing to demand that the committee stop the vote. “We heard the words of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford,” she wrote. “We witnessed her bravery and her pain.”
