Tuberville's Hold Leaves Marines Leaderless For First Time In 164 Years

The blockade from Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) on about 250 of the Pentagon’s general and flag officers has left the Marine Corps without a confirmed leader for the first time in 164 years.

If you're wondering how this sort of bullshit occurs, I'll refer you to the Wikipedia entry for more information on the archaic thing that should have been left in the dustbin of history by now, the Senate hold: "In the United States Senate, a hold is a parliamentary procedure permitted by the Standing Rules of the United States Senate which allows one or more Senators to prevent a motion from reaching a vote on the Senate floor."

So what's Tuberville's beef? "Tuberville’s hold on the Pentagon nominees, which he began in March to protest the Defense Department’s new abortion policy, shows no signs of weakening, even as the block has sparked bipartisan frustration."

Idiot. We elect too many goddamned idiots to the U.S. Senate.

It's always a safe bet that whatever damage this court does with any of its rulings, the repercussions never end there. We've already had Nazi Stephen Miller threatening to sue law schools if race is taken into account for admissions.

Now we've got Duffy and Gasparino celebrating the fact that some corporate CEOs are telling Gasparino this may mean the end of DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) programs, and the possibility that we may see law suits from white men if they feel they've been passed over for a promotion because they're white.

The GOP has a hyperfocus on just four states for the next Senate race, giving up "on a once-in-a-generation map that massively empowers their base of rural white voters to build a sustainable GOP majority" and choosing to play it safe, HuffPost reported.

The Democrats are considering 2024 as "year zero" as they defend seats in nearly half of the country, including many in states traditionally sympathetic to the Republicans.

But instead of trying to cash in, Sen. Mitch McConnell told CNN in May that Republicans are focusing just on Montana, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Morning Joe's panel talked about all the people killed via gun violence this weekend, including a 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman identified as Aleah Gonzales.

She was amazing. She was the best sister I could ever ask for. And I miss her so bad.

Willie Geist said in addition to Gonzales, 28 people were injured in the shooting, the youngest 13 years old.

Here’s something that will send a shiver up the spine of anyone who has battled termites — meaning just about every homeowner in Florida.

Termites get hungrier as temperatures get hotter, according to a new study, with their appetites for wood somehow whetted by rising temperatures.

That finding comes from more than 100 researchers across six continents who measured how fast termites ate blocks of dead wood left outside for at least a year in different regions with varying temperatures and rainfall.

US corporate media accused of 'normalizing the hate group' Moms for Liberty

ABC News this week joined other U.S. corporate media outlets in being accused of "normalizing" Moms for Liberty after publishing what one critic called a "puff piece" on the right-wing group that's behind a wave of school book bans and is linked to the neofascist Proud Boys and the Qanon conspiracy theory.

On Saturday, ABC News published an article by Brittany Shepherd titled "Moms for Liberty Are Fired Up in Philadelphia" as the self-described "parental rights" organization held its annual conference in Pennsylvania's largest city, where crowds of protesters turned out to denounce the group's bigotry.

"They call themselves joyful warriors—but this group of conservative moms are mad," Shepherd wrote in her lede.

Upside down Wisconsin roller coaster triggers emergency rescue

A Wisconsin county fair roller coaster malfunctioned over the weekend, prompting an emergency rescue for some thrill seekers who were left upside down for several hours, WAOW-Wausau reports.

The incident happened Sunday afternoon on the “Fireball” ride at the Forest County Festival in Crandon.

Emergency responders pulled all the riders to their safety but their condition wasn’t yet known, the report said.
