New York’s “Taxi King” Gene Freidman has been hit with a $1.34m judgment over claims he sexually harassed and later retaliated against a former assistant.
Freidman, a former business associate of Donald Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen, was accused of subjecting employee Elaine Gutierrez to a range of abuse.
He was alleged to have made explicit comments about her body in private and in front of groups of associates, including according to Gutierrez’s complaint, saying: “Get your big boobs out of my face,” and even commenting to other men in the room: “Did you see her boobs?” and “Do you know Elaine rubbed them big boobs on me?”
Freidman was also accused of throwing papers on the floor and forcing Gutierrez to pick them up, and on occasion harassing her in front of her 10-year-old daughter. In 2017, Gutierrez was fired in what was described by her counsel as “a blatant act of retaliation for speaking out against the harassment”.

Butina, then 27, was asked on the sidelines of the event why she had travelled all the way to Nevada for a gathering of libertarians and conservatives. “I would like to know more, and to bring this knowledge to Russia,” she said casually. “I hope it will be useful for my country.”
According to US prosecutors, Butina’s patriotic curiosity had by then developed into the beginnings of a criminal conspiracy.

The EU and Japan say approval of the world’s largest bilateral free trade deal shines a “light in the darkness” of global political uncertainty.
Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe, and the EU leaders Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker sought to establish themselves as the flag-bearers of the free world, in response to Donald Trump’s show of apparent solidarity with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday.
The leaders promoted the benefits of a free trade deal that is set to eliminate nearly all tariffs on products traded between Japan and the EU.
Tusk, the president of the European council and an outspoken critic of the Trump administration in recent months, was particularly keen to celebrate the shared values of the signatories, not only in terms of trade but also foreign policy.

Search 'idiot', get Trump: how activists are gaming Google Images
The first page of search results has become the frontline in petty internet protests against Donald Trump
Donald Trump is #winning. On the back of an already excellent week where he was gifted a football and impeded a monarch, right now the president is also leaping up Google’s image search rankings, to poll position.
When you type the word “idiot” into Google’s image search, Trump is the first returned result. This is partly because the Green Day song American Idiot was used by protesters to soundtrack his trip to London. But since then there’s also been a concerted campaign to capitalize on that association, and manipulate Google’s algorithm, by linking the word to the picture. Mostly this involved people upvoting a post containing a photo of him and the word “idiot” on Reddit.
This may seem unfair to his most fervent supporters. But if there’s one thing Google is keen to emphasize, it’s that search ain’t fair.
The company has always refused to play God when it comes to their algorithm. Even when the search term “Jew” started returning a hook-nosed caricature in 2004, rather than delete the image, they instead took out ads next to it to explain why antisemitic imagery, as well as antisemitic websites like “Jew Watch”, were appearing so high up the results.

Astronomers discover 12 new moons orbiting Jupiter - one on collision course with the others
A head-on collision between two Jovian moons would create a crash so large it would be visible from earth
One of a dozen new moons discovered around Jupiter is circling the planet on a suicide orbit that will inevitably lead to its violent destruction, astronomers say.
Researchers in the US stumbled upon the new moons while hunting for a mysterious ninth planet that is postulated to lurk far beyond the orbit of Neptune, the most distant planet in the solar system.
The team first glimpsed the moons in March last year from the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile, but needed more than a year to confirm that the bodies were locked in orbit around the gas giant. “It was a long process,” said Scott Sheppard, who led the effort at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington DC.
Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system, was hardly short of moons before the latest findings. The fresh haul of natural satellites brings the total number of Jovian moons to 79, more than are known to circle any other planet in our cosmic neighbourhood.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday attempted to walk back his public support of Vladimir Putin’s denials of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, by correcting one word he from his press conference on Monday.
“In a key sentence in my remarks said the word would instead of wouldn’t,” he said. “The sentence should have been, ‘I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t or why it wouldn’t be Russia.’ … Sort of a double negative. So you can put that in, and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself.”
Trump said he realized he need to clarify that word choice after reading through the transcript of the press conference, which he requested because he couldn’t figure out why the media was being so critical.
“I came back and I said, ‘What is going on? What’s the big deal?'” he said. “I thought it would be obvious, but I would just like to clarify just in case it wasn’t.”

Lava from the Hawaii volcano has created a tiny new island off its coast

(CNN)Lava that's still flowing from the Kilauea volcano has now created a tiny new island off the coast of Hawaii.
The island of lava appeared Thursday, just offshore from the northern edge of the Big Island, the United States Geological Survey said. A Hawaii Volcano Observatory crew noticed it during a Friday morning flight.
The island is part of the lava flow that extends underwater away from the coastline, the agency said. It thinks underwater pressure pushed the lava flow to the surface. This is very common -- it's called a tumulus.
The braided lava channel extending from the fissure 8 vent (near top, center) and flowing toward the ocean.
If the lava flow stays active, the island will probably connect to the coastline, USGS said. If not, it might erode away because of wave action.
The agency said the island is just a few meters offshore, and about 20 to 30 feet in diameter.

Warner: I give Trump 24 hours before he sides with Putin again

Sen. Mark Warner (Va.), the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, on Tuesday dismissed President Trump's walkback of his comments during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Warner told CNN that he didn't believe Trump, who said that he "misspoke" Monday when he said he saw no reason why it "would be Russia" who interfered with the U.S. presidential election in 2016, siding with Putin's version over his own intelligence agencies.
“My feeling is this has a strange resemblance to the president’s comments after he was so offensive to the disturbances in Charlottesville that he equated the neo-Nazis with the protesters," Warner said, referring to the president's defense of "good people" on "both sides" of the violence caused by white nationalists in Virginia last year.
"He then walked back those comments a couple of days later for about 12 hours before he got on another Fox TV show or tweeted again," the Virginia Democrat added.
