Trump giving highest civilian honor to disgraced economist just because he praised Trump

By
Emily Singer -
June 19, 2019

The man who came up with the debunked economic theory that Republicans have used to justify tax cuts will be honored by Trump.

Arthur Laffer is a right-wing crank whose economic theory that tax cuts pay for themselves has not only been widely debunked by actual economists but has proven to be an abject failure when put into action.

Yet Trump is set to give Laffer the Medal of Freedom on Wednesday — the highest honor a civilian can receive — and it's all because Laffer has praised the egomaniac who occupies the Oval Office.

Laffer truly does not deserve the honor he's about to receive.

Kansas' GOP-controlled legislature passed a tax plan back in 2012 authored by Laffer that proved to be so disastrous and a cause of such outrage that it led a Democrat to actually win the deep red state's governor's mansion in 2018.

And the main steam media is going to show the two assholes together, while the orange hair asshole will be standing behind him smiling with his treasonous grin while putting the medal around the other assholes neck, who will then have the shit eating grin from ear to ear..........................and since 1984-2019 over 148 million Americans in this country live in poverty...................

I just wonder when we get a complete control of Congress and the white house if this asshole and that medal can be stripped from him.............................he really is a libertarian jerk ............................

Majority of House Republicans try to strip all funding from Peace Corps

Source: Shareblue

Not a single Democrat voted to take money away from the Peace Corps program.

Republicans tried and failed to take away all funding from the Peace Corps during a Tuesday evening House vote.

An amendment offered by Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC) to slash $19 billion for U.S. foreign assistance — including every penny supporting the Peace Corps — failed spectacularly in a 110-315 vote.

The measure failed because a united Democratic majority voted against it, with not a single Democrat supporting the draconian cut. Every one of the 110 votes to take away Peace Corps funding came from Republicans, and only a minority of GOP House members, 81 Republicans, voted with Democrats to preserve Peace Corps funding.

Walker’s bill would have reallocated the funding from Peace Corps and other international priorities to domestic issues.

Established by President Kennedy in 1961, the Peace Corps has seen more than 220,000 Americans serve abroad, working on issues such as reducing malaria, economically empowering women and girls, and reducing global hunger.

"I felt compelled to contribute to the goodness in the world and expand its reach, offering skills to help build a more inclusive global economy through local business and entrepreneurship," Yvette Garcia, a community economic development volunteer in the Dominican Republic, said about her reason for joining Peace Corps.

Americans like Garcia and thousands of other Peace Corps volunteers help make the world a better place, working to spread peace and prosperity.

Yet most Republicans wanted to put an end to all of that good work.

Pilots criticize Boeing for mistakes on its grounded jet

Source: Associated Press

By DAVID KOENIG and TOM KRISHER 15 minutes ago

Airline union leaders and a famed former pilot said Wednesday that Boeing made mistakes while developing the 737 Max, and the biggest was not telling anybody about new flight-control software so pilots could train for it.

Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who landed a crippled airliner safely on the Hudson River in 2009, said he doubted that any U.S. pilots practiced handling a specific malfunction until it happened on two Max jets that crashed, killing 346 people. Max pilots should train for such emergencies in simulators — not just on computers, as Boeing proposes, he said.

“We should all want pilots to experience these challenging situations for the first time in a simulator, not in flight, with passengers and crew on board,” Sullenberger said, adding that “reading about it on an iPad is not even close to sufficient.”

Sullenberger’s comments to the House aviation subcommittee came during the third congressional hearing on Boeing’s troubled plane, which has been grounded for three months.

Let me also add, if the technician (Licensed Airframe and PowerPlant Mechanic which I was ) working the flight line, does not have the Maintenance Manual procedure to check for the failed Angle of Attack sensor for this aircraft or the Line Replacement Unit (LRU) or to simulate the drive on that elevator and to get that stick shaker to activate, and if there had been a write-up to that fault to perform that check.....................and it is just not there in the manual............................this just pisses me off..........................

Scientists record singing by rare right whale for first time

By DAN JOLING an hour ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Federal marine biologists have recorded singing by one of the rarest whales on the planet.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration researchers used moored acoustic recorders to capture repeated patterns of calls made by male North Pacific right whales, the first time any right whale songs in any population have been documented, said NOAA Fisheries marine biologist Jessica Crance on Wednesday from Seattle. She spoke to southern right whale and North Atlantic right whale experts to confirm that singing had not previously been documented.

The number of eastern North Pacific right whales is estimated at just 30 animals from a population largely wiped out by whalers. The slow-moving whales remained buoyant after death and were targeted by whalers.

Researchers detected four distinct songs over eight years at five locations in the Bering Sea off Alaska’s southwest coast. Weird patterns of sound were first noted.

Jim Pike, co-founder of Lettermen vocal group, dies at 82

Source: Associated Press

By JOHN ROGERS 29 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jim Pike, co-founder and lead singer of The Lettermen, whose lush vocal harmonies made the Grammy-nominated trio one of the most popular vocal groups of the 1960s, has died at age 82.

Pike died June 9 at his home in Prescott, Arizona, his sister-in-law Becky Pike told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The cause was complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

Pike and Bob Engemann, a college buddy from Brigham Young University, formed The Lettermen in Los Angeles in 1961 with fellow singer Tony Butala.

They were looking for a name that would resonate with young people, Pike’s younger brother, Gary, said Wednesday, when Engemann suggested The Lettermen. Butala noted that he’d briefly sung with a group using that name and he’d have to ask its leader for permission.

Hicks won't talk about Trump White House in interview

By MARY CLARE JALONICK and LAURIE KELLMAN today

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former top White House adviser Hope Hicks is refusing to answer questions related to her time in the White House in an interview with the House Judiciary Committee, dimming Democrats’ chances of obtaining new or substantive information about President Donald Trump as part of their investigation into obstruction of justice.

Less than an hour into the interview, frustrated Democrats taking breaks from the meeting said Hicks and her lawyer were following White House orders to stay quiet about her time there working for Trump. She was answering some questions about her time on Trump’s campaign, the lawmakers said.

“She’s objecting to stuff that’s already in the public record,” said California Rep. Karen Bass. “It’s pretty ridiculous.”

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., called her answers “a farce.” California Rep. Ted Lieu tweeted about the interview, writing that Hicks refused to answer even innocuous questions such as whether she had previously testified before Congress.

'Joints will be separated': Jamal Khashoggi's murder, retold

By JAMEY KEATEN and AYA BATRAWY16 minutes ago

GENEVA (AP) — The gathering on the second floor of the Saudi consulate featured an unlikely collection: a forensic doctor, intelligence and security officers, agents of the crown prince’s office. As they waited for their target to arrive, one asked how they would carry out the body.

Not to worry, the doctor said: “Joints will be separated. It is not a problem,” he assured. “If we take plastic bags and cut it into pieces, it will be finished. We will wrap each of them.”

Their prey, Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, would not leave the consulate in Istanbul alive. And on Wednesday, more than eight months after his death, a U.N. special rapporteur revealed new details of the slaying — part of a report that insisted there was “credible evidence” to warrant further investigation and financial sanctions against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The report brought the grisly case back into the spotlight just as the prince and his country appeared to be emerging from the stain of the scandal. But it contained no smoking gun likely to cause President Donald Trump to abandon one of his closest allies — and none likely to send the crown prince before a tribunal.

As legal glare turns to Trump, his faith in Supreme Court may be tested

Supreme Court

Andrew Chung, Lawrence Hurley 7 Min Read

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump’s fondness for the U.S. Supreme Court could be tested by a series of legal disputes targeting him personally – from his taxes and businesses to his 2016 election campaign – that ultimately may be decided by the justices.

Trump has viewed the court, whose 5-4 conservative majority includes two justices he appointed, as friendly territory, unlike certain lower courts and individual judges he has publicly criticized after ending up on the wrong side of rulings. The Supreme Court already has given the Republican president victories on some pivotal policies including upholding his travel ban targeting people from several Muslim-majority countries.

But as the focus of some of the major legal challenges shifts from his policies to Trump himself, there could be disappointments in store for him, according to some legal experts, in particular if the Supreme Court stoutly defends the ability of Congress to pursue investigations of the president.

The conservative justices “won’t feel any loyalty to Trump, but will instead support strong separation of powers” as delineated in the U.S. Constitution assigning specific roles to the government’s executive, legislative and judicial branches, said conservative legal scholar J.W. Verret, an expert in corporate and securities law at George Mason University in Virginia.

'Even bigger lunatics than we realized': UN officials reportedly think Trump is planning 'massive' b

Published 22 mins ago on June 18, 2019
By Common Dreams

As the Trump administration prepares to deploy 1,000 additional troops to the Middle East in a move critics warned will heighten the possibility of all-out war with Iran, United Nations officials reportedly believe the U.S. is also planning a major “aerial bombardment” of an Iranian nuclear facility.

United Nations officials are “assessing the United States’ plans to carry out a tactical assault on Iran,” the Jerusalem Post reported Monday, citing anonymous diplomatic sources at the U.N. headquarters in New York.

“According to the officials, since Friday, the White House has been holding incessant discussions involving senior military commanders, Pentagon representatives, and advisers to President Donald Trump,” the Post reported. “The military action under consideration would be an aerial bombardment of an Iranian facility linked to its nuclear program.”

One “Western diplomat” told the Post that the bombing campaign would be “massive” but “limited to a specific target.”
