Boeing CEO sees passenger levels under 25% in September, pain for airlines: NBC interview

Source: Reuters

BUSINESS NEWS MAY 11, 2020 / 7:31 PM / UPDATED 6 MINUTES AGO

(Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) Chief Executive Dave Calhoun does not expect passenger traffic to reach even a quarter of its levels in September, creating the need for airlines to make “adjustments” as they weather the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with NBC to be aired on Tuesday, Calhoun said: “Traffic levels will not be back to 100%. They won’t even be back to 25%. Maybe by the end of the year we approach 50%. So there will definitely be adjustments that have to be made on the part of the airlines.”

Asked whether there might be a major U.S. carrier that has to go out of business, Calhoun said: “Yes, most likely. You know, something will happen when September comes around.”

In response to Calhoun’s comment, Boeing spokesman Gordon Johndroe said: “He was speaking to the general uncertainty in the sector, not about any one particular airline.”

Okay I happened to turn on the tv (MSNBC) to get ready for tonight's shows

and I then saw the traitor standing at the podium during the press charade swinging his arms like he's' trying to do some exercises, I guess for his next golf game, and then he exercised his lips to then speak, you know that pucker factor and he had on no masks and the admiral had on no masks.
Then some intrepid reporter asked a question, now this is about 5:30 PM..................so I could only stand 15 seconds, so that meant 5:30 & 15 seconds , but during her question she did not ask, why don't you wear a mask................did any one watch this charade longer then me, to see or hear any of the reporters ask the admiral or doofus why are you not wearing a mask..........or you not suppose to lead and do some modicum of phase one whatever the hell that means since the CDC report has been buried by some kind of death cult that runs around between those two ears that he has on his orange head, while swinging his arms and pucker his lips........

I just don't get why these reporters don't keep hammering this jerk(s) on that one question..........Where is your mask?

So they can really drive the lunatic over the edge.......give me a press card...........

NYT: Skadden Paid $11M To Settle Claim Arising From Manafort's Ukraine Work

By Josh Kovensky
|
May 11, 2020 1:50 p.m.

The New York Times has an answer to a mystery first launched by Ukrainian financial disclosures last week.

White shoe law firm Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom paid out at least $11 million to settle allegations stemming from an operation imprisoned former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort ran to whitewash the Ukrainian government’s 2011 imprisonment of a political opponent, the paper reports.

Ukrainian public financial disclosures showed last week that former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her lawyer Serhiy Vlasov declared around $5.5 million in “foreign income” from Reid Collins & Tsai, a law firm specializing in plaintiff-brought, professional liability suits.

The Times reported that Tymoshenko had contemplated bringing a case over the firm’s “role in aiding her political prosecution,” and that the settlement would “avert a suit over its role in justifying her imprisonment by a political rival.”

So again why is this firm allowed to operate........becuase they do mergers...............if I were to do this, or you were to do this we would be in jail............

WH Adviser Belittles Media Coverage Of Staggering Unemployment As 'Pity Party'

By Cristina Cabrera

May 11, 2020 1:44 p.m.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro on Monday disparaged the media’s coverage of the staggering 14.7 percent unemployment rate in April caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“That was a pity party yesterday on the Sunday shows,” Navarro complained on “Fox and Friends,” singling out CBS News “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan, ABC News “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos and “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.

“This is not the Great Depression,” the White House official continued. “Anybody who thinks this is the Great Depression doesn’t understand either history or economics.”

Navarro claimed that President Donald Trump had built “the strongest and most beautiful economy” before the virus took hold.

Okay shit for brains, tell the country how 3.5% in January being unemployed to over 15% in April is not a depression in less than 3 months.....and having over 80,000 deaths and over 1.5 million infected by a deadly virus on those that want to live.....................and besides you have BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS also..............that is your legacy...........you libertarian POS........maybe you can use the "cubic model" by that DPS economist in the white house........................

Paul Krugman explains how the GOP's disdain for workers will tank the economy

Written by Alex Henderson May 11, 2020

There was no shortage of terrible news coming from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday, May 8, when the BLS reported that unemployment had reached 14.7% in the United States in April and that the country had lost 20.5 million more jobs last month — that is, in addition to all the jobs lost in March thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. And Friday’s jobs report doesn’t take into account the jobs that have been lost in May so far. Despite all that, Republicans are hardly going out of their way to help all the Americans who are struggling badly — and liberal economist Paul Krugman calls them out for it in his New York Times column.

“COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on workers,” Krugman explains. “The economy has plunged so quickly that official statistics can’t keep up, but the available data suggest that tens of millions of Americans have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, with more job losses to come and full recovery probably years away. But Republicans adamantly oppose extending enhanced unemployment benefits.”

Krugman adds that because “most working-age Americans receive health insurance through their employers,” millions of Americans are — during a deadly pandemic — losing their health insurance when they lose their jobs.

“The only mitigating factor is the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, which will allow many — though by no means all — of the newly uninsured to find alternative coverage,” Krugman observes. “But the Trump Administration is still trying to have the Affordable Care Act ruled unconstitutional. ‘We want to terminate health care under Obamacare,’ declared Donald Trump — even though the Administration has never offered a serious alternative.”

Yale philosopher and author of 'How Fascism Works' explains why the pandemic offers Trump

a dangerous opportunity to ‘rule by decree’

Written by Chauncey DeVega / Salon May 11, 2020

A moment of reckoning is here. America must have committed great wrongs to be afflicted with the coronavirus pandemic and Donald Trump at the same time.

Authoritarians like Trump love disasters. Because they can only destroy and not create, authoritarians use such moments of misery and fear to expand their power.

Donald Trump is announcing that fact when he proclaims himself to be a “war president.” Such language is not just the superficial trappings of Trump wrapping himself in the flag and using empty words about “sacrifice” and “bravery” and “heroism.” It is something far worse and more sinister. As a “war president,” Trump is putting himself above the law and proclaiming the country is in a state of emergency.

I recently spoke with Yale University philosophy professor Jason Stanley, author of the books “How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them” and “How Propaganda Works.” He warns in this conversation that the coronavirus pandemic is an opportunity for the Trump regime to further advance its campaign against the Constitution, democracy, human rights, human dignity and freedom across all areas of American society.

Shale pioneer Chesapeake considers bankruptcy filing after oil rout

Source: Reuters

DEALS MAY 11, 2020 / 8:50 AM / UPDATED 10 MINUTES AGO

(Reuters) - Chesapeake Energy Corp (CHK.N) said on Monday it is no longer able to access financing and is considering a bankruptcy court restructuring of its over $9 billion debt if oil prices don’t recover from their sharp fall caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reuters reported last month that the pioneering shale gas producer was in talks to line up bankruptcy financing and was discussing a possible loan to help maintain operations through the court proceedings.

Debt maturities and interest expenses combined total more than $1 billion, according to company filings. About $250 million of its senior notes are due this year.

The Oklahoma City-based company re-issued bit.ly/2Li4YGr a going concern warning on Monday, its second since November, and said this quarter's review of the value of its untapped oil and gas reserves is likely to show a decline due to its distressed financial position, reducing its ability to borrow against those assets.
