Sunny days draw crowds to beaches, parks as U.S. reopens from lockdowns

HEALTH NEWS MAY 3, 2020 / 11:47 AM / UPDATED 43 MINUTES AGO

(Reuters) - Sunny days and warm weather are proving to be as challenging to manage as restaurants, hair salons and other businesses as about half of U.S. states partially reopen their economies after the coronavirus lockdown.

On Saturday, thousands of people gathered on the National Mall in Washington to view a U.S. Navy flyover to honor healthcare workers and others battling the pandemic.

In New York City, the warmest weather yet this spring caused picnickers and sunbathers to flock to green spaces in Manhattan, including crowded conditions at Christopher Street Pier in Greenwich Village, according to photos on social media.

Last week, California ordered beaches in Orange County to close, after crowds defied public health guidelines to throng the popular shoreline. That prompted protests by demonstrators who accused the state’s Democratic governor of overreach.

Dr. Deborah Birx, response coordinator for the White House coronavirus task force, said on “Fox News Sunday” that massing on beaches was not safe unless people kept at least 6 feet apart. She also weighed in against allowing such businesses as beauty salons and spas to reopen in the first phase.

Phoning it in: Pandemic forces Supreme Court to hear cases in a new way

SUPREME COURT MAY 3, 2020 / 6:09 AM / UPDATED 6 HOURS AGO

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court are typically a formal affair, dictated by adherence to tradition by an institution historically resistant to altering its ways. Come Monday, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, all that changes.

In a first, the nine justices are set to participate in arguments in 10 cases - each scheduled for an hour - this week and next week conducted remotely by teleconference rather than in-person to combat the spread of the pathogen. In another break with tradition, the court will provide a live audio feed of the arguments to the news media.

The changes reflect the new reality of working from home during the pandemic. The new format means than many formalities will be set aside. Some of the lawyers who will argue the cases have said they plan on wearing comfortable clothing - jeans and T-shirts - and will address the justices from kitchens and spare bedrooms, not from behind a lectern in the courtroom.

The cases include one of the biggest disputes of the court’s current term - whether President Donald Trump, arguing for expansive presidential powers, can keep his financial records including tax returns secret. Three cases will be argued on the subject on May 12, two involving congressional subpoenas to third parties for his records and one involving a subpoena by a local prosecutor in New York City in a criminal investigation into Trump and his family real estate business.

Trump already prepping White House transition in case he loses in November

By Associated Press -May 3, 2020 10:00 AM

Some Democrats have expressed doubts that the White House would be fully engaged in the process of preparing Trump's 2020 opponent.

Donald Trump is still all-in on getting reelected, but he's also set to take the first steps to formally prepare someone else to take over if he loses on Nov. 3.

Trump is standing up a council under the first deployment of the Presidential Transition Act by an incumbent running for another term after Congress moved in 2015 to better ensure continuity of government when one president hands off to another.

Making sure presidential candidates are ready to take charge of the federal government became a priority after the Sept. 11 attacks, but the effort takes on new urgency because of the coronavirus pandemic and associated economic turmoil.

"The relevance of transition planning has intensified since it could be the first election since 1932 where we had more than 20% unemployment, more than twice as high as the unemployment rate in 2008," said David Marchick, director of the Center for Presidential Transition at the nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service. "You add to that a health crisis and the potential for a virtual transition. The degree of complexity has increased significantly."

He will not go away peaceably.....he has gutted every agency in the government, just so he could fuck over the public and make money off it .......I agree with Biden on this :

Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, expressed skepticism to donors Tuesday that the Trump White House would work to provide a smooth transition.

Americans forced to navigate risks on their own amid confusion around reopening

By Associated Press -May 2, 2020 1:00 PM

As some government leaders make moves to reopen businesses and schools, the next decisions made will be personal.

Things were so much clearer when just about everything was locked down.

Now, with states lifting coronavirus restrictions piecemeal and by often arbitrary timetables, Americans are facing bewildering decisions about what they should and should not do to protect their health, their livelihoods, and their neighbors.

Is it safe to join the crowds at the beach or eat at a restaurant? To visit the elderly parents you haven't seen in nearly two months? To reopen a struggling business?

In many cases, the less-than-satisfying answer from the experts is: It depends.

https://americanindependent.com/coronavirus-lockdowns-reopen-country-health-economy-covid-19/

Yeah that's what I want to do, send my kids to school, and then hear reports that the school has an uptick in this virus and then having my other neighbor ranting about why did they open the schools and blaming everyone except themselves, and then go into a restaurant and have bite to eat, and then having to take off my mask to feed my face...........wondering if the filtration system in the place can sorta get the droplets-out of the air, and having cooks standing over my food cooking with mask on or not knowing if they don't have one.....................got it....

Ohio governor says his face mask order went 'too far'

Source: MSN

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said Sunday that a statewide order mandating face masks be worn in stores went "too far."

"It became clear to me that that was just a bridge too far. People were not going to accept the government telling them what to do," he said on ABC's "This Week."

Appearing from Cedarville, Ohio, Dewine told Co-Anchor Martha Raddatz, "that was just one (order) that went too far."
While DeWine was one of the first governors to implement statewide closures amid the novel coronavirus outbreak -- closing schools on March 12 and postponing state primaries on March 17 -- he rescinded a statewide order on Tuesday requiring face masks be worn in stores, writing on Twitter that it became clear to him some Ohioans found it "offensive."

Despite cancelling the order, he still urged his constituents to wear masks.

This week, the governor announced a phased approach to reopening Ohio, allowing manufacturing and construction businesses to resume work Monday. On May 11, consumer and retail stores will also be allowed to reopen.

Can't come right out and say you know it really is a public safety issue and you will wear the mask.........
Hey Dewine I have fucking idea.......................why don't you have a instate poll to see how many want to endanger other people in the state.............lets see how many of your citizens have any empathy or no empathy for there neighbor...............instead of having some minority of idiots dictating the situation........and if they don't take the poll then that would be a yes.................Oh I forgot its a libertarian thing to do.................

Jared Kushner embraced 'econometric model' of coronavirus predicting 'far fewer fatalities':

Published 2 mins ago on May 2, 2020
By Bob Brigham

Senior advisor Jared Kushner embraced the findings of an internal White House coronavirus model that was conducted by an economist, according to an in-depth new Washington Post expose on the administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The epidemiological models under review in the White House Situation Room in late March were bracing. In a best-case scenario, they showed the novel coronavirus was likely to kill between 100,000 and 240,000 Americans. President Trump was apprehensive about so much carnage on his watch, yet also impatient to reopen the economy — and he wanted data to justify doing so,” the newspaper reported.

“So the White House considered its own analysis. A small team led by Kevin Hassett — a former chairman of Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers with no background in infectious diseases — quietly built an econometric model to guide response operations,” the newspaper explained. “Many White House aides interpreted the analysis as predicting that the daily death count would peak in mid-April before dropping off substantially, and that there would be far fewer fatalities than initially foreseen, according to six people briefed on it.”

“Although Hassett denied that he ever projected the number of dead, other senior administration officials said his presentations characterized the count as lower than commonly forecast — and that it was embraced inside the West Wing by the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and other powerful aides helping to oversee the government’s pandemic response,” the newspaper reported. “For Trump — whose decision-making has been guided largely by his reelection prospects — the analysis, coupled with Hassett’s grim predictions of economic calamity, provided justification to pivot to where he preferred to be: cheering an economic revival rather than managing a catastrophic health crisis.”

So these psychopathic jerks were sitting in room, taking a look at the "data"..............thinking that the people in this country are EXPENDABLE, and they just wanted to open the country up to the libertarian slum lord mentality......what's 100.,000 here or 240,000 there.............. no big deal ..........JFC.............

Trump argues he's done more than ending slavery in appeal to black voters

Published 1 min ago on May 2, 2020
By Bob Brigham

President Donald Trump made eye-brow raising claims about how he has impacted African Americans on Saturday.

With the public health and economic impacts of the coronavirus response disproportionately harming black Americans, Trump took to Twitter to brag that he’s even better than Abraham Lincoln, who fought a deadly war to end slavery.

“Trump has done more for Blacks than all the other Presidents combined! Are we together?” a Twitter user replied to a tweet from Trump attacking MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace.

Trump agreed.

Hey Blood on Your Hands...........Lincoln didn't have to put a American Flag on his lapel, to be man

And for the tweet, exactly what has your trumpster done................presently there are over 65,000+ dead people and his FEMA team are taking away masks to protect people in the VA.........who happened to have at one time defended the Constitution and not the flag on his lapel..............

Fox's Tucker Carlson Actively Encourages People To Defy Lockdown Orders

Politics 5/02/20 8:34 am Read time: 4 minutes

Tucker Carlson continued his dangerous coverage of the coronavirus pandemic, this time characterizing state stay-at-home orders as "totalitarianism."

By Heather

As Media Matters has documented, Fox host Tucker Carlson has been using his show to downplay the dangers of the coronavirus pandemic, and making reckless and deadly claims that social distancing doesn't stop its spread:

After state and local governments implemented social distancing measures to fight the coronavirus pandemic, Tucker Carlson has used his prime-time Fox News show to falsely claim that these measures failed to slow the spread of the virus. In the broader context of Fox News’ pattern of airing misinformation about the coronavirus, Carlson’s campaign to discredit social distancing policies is particularly glaring and dangerous.

They go onto detail the claims he's been making for the last month on his show, lying about the benefits of social distancing, and lying about the fact that they've worked to flatten the curve and helped to stop the spread of the virus. Carlson was rightly criticized by MSNBC's Chris Hayes this week for being a "Covid Truther," telling others that it's safe to go back to work, consequences to their health be damned, while broadcasting from the safety of isolation.

This Friday, Carlson continued to put the health and safety of his viewers at risk by going after the governors who are trying to keep their constituents safe with these stay-at-home orders, attacking the orders as "totalitarianism," claiming they have no right to order people to stay home in the first place, and defending these yahoos who have been out there in recent weeks protesting and holding church services, telling his audience "Let’s draw a line at some point."

Okay "Tuck's " time to man up........... why don't you just go right out and stand at the front of the line and show everyone how to do it, instead of sitting at your home, telling everyone else how to do it, making millions..........

Pence Retaliates Against Reporter For Telling The Truth, That Knew He Should Wear A Mask

Politics 5/02/20 2:57 pm Read time: 4 minutes

Mike Pence wants an apology from the reporter who dared to tell the truth about the memo that said masks were required for his trip to the Mayo Clinic on Tuesday.

By Mark Sumner

The most amazing fact about the entire Trump White House is not that they’re constantly wrong. Any deliberately ignorant, boneheaded ideologue can be wrong—just ask Louie Gohmert. Nope, what has set Team Trump apart from the very beginning is their inability to admit to being wrong about the smallest, most obvious thing. Ever. The phone call was perfect. The inauguration crowd was huge. Little things like transcripts and photos be damned.

Fast climbing the ranks of things that are wrong, undeniably wrong, fully documented wrong, obviously, on camera, in your face wrong … and yet still being inexplicably defended by people who just can’t let anything go, is Mike Pence’s face mask. Or rather, the fact that Mike Pence doesn’t apparently have a face mask. Four days after Pence offered himself up as the great white virus vector, his staff isn’t just finding new ways to justify the unjustifiable—they’re threatening to sue reporters for showing what Pence actually did.

These are the facts:
