Candidate's 'deportation bus' breaks down at the start of the tour

Source: The Hill

The so-called "deportation bus" that a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Georgia is taking across the state broke down on Thursday, after water got into the fuel tank.

Georgia state Sen. Michael Williams' bus broke down on the side of Interstate 75 in Calhoun, Ga., but has since been repaired and is continuing its tour across the state's "dangerous sanctuary cities."

Seth Weathers, a spokesman for Williams' campaign, said that "a closer watch will be kept on the bus while making stops."

"Somehow, water managed to enter the fuel tank which caused the issue," he said. "We certainly would not blame this on ANTIFA or others who are openly plotting to damage or destroy the bus. We know the left would never stoop to such a pathetic low."

EU Official On Trump: 'With Friends Like This'

Reprinted with permission from Shareblue.com

Under Trump, the United States has become more of an enemy of the European Union than an ally. That’s the frank assessment of Donald Tusk, one of the EU’s top officials.

Tusk, the European Council president and a former prime minister of Poland, characterized the recent diplomatic bumbling by the Trump administration in no uncertain terms.

“Looking at latest decisions of @realDonaldTrump someone could even think: with friends like that who needs enemies,” he tweeted. “Thanks to him we got rid of all illusions. We realize that if you need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of your arm.”

The European Council represents the heads of state of the European Union. So when Tusk speaks out, he does so on behalf of some of America’s closest allies on the continent.

Seattle City Council scales back tax to aid homeless amid Amazon opposition

Source: Think Progress

The city council passed a version of the tax Monday that was slashed nearly in half.

JOSHUA EATON MAY 14, 2018, 8:13 PM

The Seattle City Council unanimously passed a tax on large employers Monday that will aid the city’s homeless residents — but not before slashing the proposal nearly in half over opposition from Amazon, which is headquartered in Seattle, and a veto threat from Mayor Jenny Durkan.

Companies that gross $20 million or more a year will now face an annual tax of $275 per employee. That’s down from the original $500 per employee proposed by Councilors Lorena Gonzalez, Lisa Herbold, Teresa Mosqueda, and Mike O’Brien, which drew Amazon and Durkan’s ire.

Democratic socialist Councilor Kshama Sawant was the sole vote against the amendment to reduce the tax from $500 to $275 per employee.

“There is no way this tax will be a burden on big businesses in Seattle,” Sawant told The Seattle Times.

Busted: South Dakota GoPer hopes for a terrorists attack to win election Due to "Trump Effect"

South Dakota State Sen. Neal Tapio (R), who is running for U.S. Congress, was caught on tape fantasizing about a terrorist attack because he said it would help him win the election.

The Huffington Post on Monday published audio of Tapio talking about how terrorism could boost his political fortunes.

“I can start in a little town like Aberdeen outside of the media glare,” he explained. “I can move it to Watertown, practice a little more, and then by the time I get to Sioux Falls, I will have said this thousands of times. And then [opponent Dusty Johnson] is just going to be so far behind, that they won’t even realize we are running for the same race.”

He added: “And then all that has to happen is that there will be one more terrorist attack between now and then and I will be the, just by the Trump effect, I will be the candidate. That’s the way I look at it.”

So South Dakota, do you think that your sons, daughters, fathers, uncles, aunts, are expendable just so that this "guy" can put your family members in harm ways, for the bone spur leader.

So just think who is worse Dusty Johnson another republican that will follow the republican agenda in Congress, gutting and cutting medicare and social security and putting people lives on the line, or this other wing nut, that wants to place human beings life on the line in battles ........................

Voting irregularity found in controversial 94th District election

Some Newport News residents who might have voted in the tied race for the 94th House of Delegates seat were assigned to the wrong district.

After the November election, a state Department of Elections review of registrations using new mapping technology found a possible discrepancy between voters’ addresses in the Lee Hall precinct and the House district where they were recorded as living, Commissioner Chris Piper said.

Piper said a check by Newport News General Registrar Vicki Lewis confirmed the discrepancy.

He said Lewis has corrected the errant assignment. He gave no more details about the number of voters possibly affected.

Lewis could not be reached for comment Thursday.

I wonder if Shelly Simonds, is going to ask for a recount, but then there was a federal judge basically didn't care about disenfranchised voters that had sued .....................

-snip-

Shortly after the November election, officials discovered that 147 voters in a split precinct in Stafford County were given the wrong ballot, and so did not vote in the race that Del. Bob Thomas, R-Fredericksburg, won by 73 votes. A federal judge declined to call a new election after three voters sued to say they’d been disenfranchised.

Grassley: I'll Keep Open An Election Year SCOTUS Vacancy, But Trump, McConnell Won't Agree

By Tierney Sneed | May 11, 2018 5:46 pm

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said he would follow what Republican in 2016 dubbed the “Biden rule” — that Supreme Court vacancies open within a year before a presidential election shouldn’t be filled until after the presidential election — if it happened before the 2020 election. He added that President Trump and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) would not agree with the Biden rule if the vacancy opened under Trump.

Grassley’s comments came during an appearance on Iowa Public Radio Friday, where he was asked if Trump would agree with holding the seat open for a vacancy that occurred in 2019 or 2020.

“It would be the one year of the ’20, if you want to follow the pattern of the Biden rule, and I’d follow that. That would just be the 12 months or, let’s say, the 10 months before the election 2020, no he wouldn’t agree with that,” Grassley said.

He was asked if McConnell would agree.

“No, he would not agree with that,” Grassley said.

Republicans conjured up the “Biden rule” when Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died in February 2016, and they sought to block President Obama’s nominee, appeals court judge Merrick Garland. Grassley, whose committee oversees judicial confirmation proceedings, did not grant Garland a hearing. McConnell released a statement declaring that Republicans would keep the seat open through the 2016 election hours after Scalia’s death.

Why Our Healthcare System Won't Be Improving Anytime Soon

We Spend Billions of Dollars Advancing Medicine But Deny Care to Millions of People

By Vic Simon

Looking at the balance of forces improving healthcare against those making it harder to get, it’s clear needed care will reach fewer people in the next three to five years. And, most of the new roadblocks to getting care come from Trump, his Department of Health and Human Services and congressional Republicans.

Already, obstacles to care are growing faster than opportunities. There’s no real chance to turn these trends around sooner than three years at the earliest.

There’s a huge tug of war in U.S. healthcare between forces pulling it up and pulling it down. On the “up” side, there are many efforts and investments to expand and improve care. Drug companies and medical device makers, backed by researchers in universities, the National Institutes of Health and elsewhere, make advances every day. Some strides are revolutionary, like immunotherapy for many cancers. Hospitals, doctors, insurance companies and government agencies run thousands of programs for health education, disease management, preventive care, smoking cessation, counseling and much more.

And in Louisiana the republican controlled legislature is getting ready to throw 97,000 elderly human beings out into the streets, because the lawmakers haven't replaced a temporary tax on the services
