Trump Cronies Name FBI Informant, Crippling Law Enforcement

Reprinted with permission from Shareblue.com

Former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg may have endangered an FBI source when he blurted out a name on MSNBC. And it was surely no accident.

Trump and Republicans in Congress have been working to expose the identity of an alleged confidential FBI informant, which Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) warns could be a crime.

And on Sunday, Nunberg may have done just that by divulging the name of a person reporting suggests is the mystery informant.

Host Alex Witt referenced reports that an unidentified professor had met with Trump campaign officials. She noted that would hardly make him an implanted spy, as Trump has claimed.

Trump Appointees Allow More Deadly Dust In Construction And Shipyard Sites

Reprinted with permission from DCReport.

Trump’s OSHA has started enforcing a watered-down safety standard on beryllium, a toxic metal that slowly damages the lungs and kills about 100 people a year.

The new standard went into effect May 11 and limits how much beryllium dust workers can be exposed to—one-tenth of the previous limit. About 62,000 workers are exposed to beryllium, including about 11,500 construction and shipyard workers.

The agency is still trying to revoke basic public health measures for construction and shipbuilding businesses such as providing protective clothing and equipment or testing workers for illnesses caused by beryllium. Those industries are expected to save an average of $957 for each of the estimated 11,486 employees who are exposed to beryllium or about $11 million.

OSHA recently settled part of a lawsuit brought by the National Association of Manufacturers, Materion Brush Inc. and two other companies about beryllium safety standards.

Hawaii volcano fills sky with acid plumes and glass shards as lava hits sea

Source: The Guardian

White plumes of acid and extremely fine shards of glass billowed into the sky over Hawaii as molten rock from the Kilauea volcano poured into the ocean, creating yet another hazard from an eruption that began more than two weeks ago.

Authorities warned the public to stay away from the toxic steam cloud, which is formed by a chemical reaction when lava touches seawater.

Further upslope, lava continued to gush out of large cracks in the ground that formed in residential neighborhoods in a rural part of the Big Island. The molten rock formed rivers that bisected forests and farms as it meandered toward the coast.

The rate of sulfur dioxide gas shooting from the ground fissures tripled, leading Hawaii county to repeat warnings about air quality. At the volcano’s summit, two explosive eruptions unleashed clouds of ash. Winds carried much of the ash towards Wood Valley, Pahala, Naalehu and Waiohinu in the south-west of the island.

'Jesus never charged a leper a co-pay': rise of the religious left

From healthcare to tax and immigration, Rev William Barber and the Poor People’s Campaign are driven by faith to focus on the disadvantaged

by Lauren Gambino in Washington

Mon 21 May 2018 08.13 EDT

In his prayer at the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem last week, a prayer delivered against a backdrop of violence in Gaza, the evangelical pastor Robert Jeffress said Donald Trump was a moral leader who stood “on the right side of you, oh God”.

Will evangelicals come out for Trump's Republican party in November?

Half a world away, outside the Capitol in Washington, the Rev William Barber led a moment of silence for the 60 Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers.

As one group of faith leaders celebrates the fruits of a decades-long alliance with the Republican party, another is mounting a multi-faith challenge to the dominance of the Christian right, an attempt to recapture the moral agenda.

“There is no religious left and religious right,” Barber, a pastor and political leader in North Carolina, told the Guardian. “There is only a moral center. And the scripture is very clear about where you have to be to be in the moral center – you have to be on the side of the poor, the working, the sick, the immigrant.”

Patricia Morison, star of Broadway and Hollywood, dies aged 103

Source: The Guardian

Patricia Morison, who originated the role of an overemotional diva in the Broadway musical Kiss Me, Kate, starred on stage opposite Yul Brynner in The King and I and appeared in films with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, died on Sunday at the age of 103.

Morison died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles, publicist Harlan Boll said. Morison’s death was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

With her long auburn hair and fiery blue-gray eyes, Morison radiated a sophisticated sex appeal. She had “the most sensual mouth of any lady in the movies”, Gregory William Mank wrote in his book Women in Horror Films, 1940s.

The Broadway actress Merle Dandridge posted a picture of herself with Morison on Sunday and tweeted out a tribute. “Rest, Beautiful Patricia Morison,” Dandridge said. “It was an honor to follow in your footsteps.”

Tax law supporters rally for Republicans in tough races

Source: The Hill

Business groups that backed the tax bill are trying to help vulnerable Republican lawmakers by highlighting their work on the issue.

They are running ads in the lawmakers’ districts and partnering with them on events at businesses that have benefited from the tax law.

Prominent business groups for years had dreamed of an overhaul of the tax code that would cut taxes for corporations and small businesses and revamp the U.S.’s system of taxing corporations’ foreign earnings. They said that these changes would allow companies to hire more employees and make new investments to grow their businesses.

At the end of 2017, the dream became a reality, with Trump signing a sweeping tax overhaul into law.

Burn! Via BBC, Royal Wedding Humiliates Trump Again

As well-wishers gathered outside Windsor Castle Saturday morning to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, BBC took a moment to throw some royal shade at Trump.

With a simple two-word tweet, BBC Three — an official Twitter account for the British Broadcasting Corporation — masterfully trolled Trump by showing him what a real crowd looks like.

The tweet displayed a picture of the crowd assembled outside Windsor Castle and juxtaposed it against a picture of the crowd at Trump’s inauguration, topping it off with a subtle yet gloriously shady caption: “just saying ¯_(ツ _/¯”

Europeans Invoke 'Blocking Statute' To Preserve Iran Deal

Source: National Memo

Trump’s decision to violate the Iran nuclear deal is prompting the European Union to take action in direct rebuke of America. The EU will invoke a rarely-used trade law which would circumvent sanctions on Iran and try to salvage relations.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said the group plans to invoke a blocking statute. The effect of the statute would be to ban European companies from complying with U.S. sanctions on Iran.

Iran has successfully complied with international inspections of nuclear facilities. Yet Trump, desperate to undo the accomplishments of President Obama, plans to reinstate the sanctions that were lifted in exchange for Iran halting nuclear production.

Furthermore, reintroducing sanctions is also likely to increase U.S. gas prices, causing financial pain for millions of Americans.

-snip-

Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, put Trump’s disdain for traditional allies in very clear terms. “With friends like that, who needs enemies,” he wondered.

His assessment appears spot-on. Under Trump, America is going it alone, abandoning allies it once fought beside to prevent the spread of tyranny. And the European Union is doing anything it can to limit the damage from his reckless acts.
