WATCH: Trump snaps at Black reporters calling them 'you people' during Rose Garden press conference

Published 2 hours ago on March 29, 2020
By Sarah K. Burris

President Donald Trump snapped at two Black reporters asking questions about his past statements on the coronavirus timeline.

During a Sunday press conference in the Rose Garden, Trump attacked Bloomberg and PBS reporters for their questions. In the case of the PBS reporter, who Trump has attacked multiple times, he referred to her and her Bloomberg colleague as “you people.”

Yamiche Alcindor asked the president about his earlier accusations that masks were “going out the back door” and said that it was “worst than hoarding.” She specifically cited his comments on Sean Hannity where he attacked blue-state governors, saying that if they’re not nice to them he won’t return their calls.

“That’s why you used to work for the Times and now you work for somebody else,” Trump attacked Alcindor for asking the question.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Singer-songwriter Jan Howard, who had a No. 1 country hit “For Loving You” with Bill Anderson and wrote hits for others like Kitty Wells’ “It’s All Over But the Crying,” has died at age 91, according to the Grand Ole Opry.

The Opry, of which she was a member for nearly 50 years, announced her death on Saturday.

“Jan Howard was a force of nature in country music, at the Opry, and in life,” said Dan Rogers, the Grand Ole Opry’s vice president and executive producer, said in a statement. “We were all so lucky so many nights to hear her voice on stage and to catch up with her backstage. We’re all better for having had her in our lives.”

The Missouri-born Howard had her first hit in 1960 with “The One You Slip Around With,” and had a string of others including “Evil on Your Mind” and “Bad Seed.”

Hospitals turn to snorkel masks to ease respirator overload

Published 4 hours ago on March 29, 2020
By Agence France-Presse

As hospitals face an overload of COVID-19 patients struggling to breathe, innovative medical staff are turning to snorkeling masks from sports stores to stop their lungs collapsing.

The idea started in Italy, the European country worst-hit by the coronavirus pandemic, with hospitals in other nations taking note and adding their own specific medical parts to make it work.

One such is the Erasme Hospital on the outskirts of Belgium’s capital Brussels. It is attached to the city’s ULB university — and through it to a private spin-off, Endo Tools Therapeutics, whose know-how in 3D printing for medical use has proved invaluable.

“They are to be used for patients with severe respiratory problems. The aim is to avoid having to intubate the trachea of the patient and put them on a respirator,” said Frederic Bonnier, a respiratory physiotherapist at the hospital who also teaches at the university.

Top U.S. House Republican says another coronavirus stimulus bill may not be needed

Source: Reuters

BONDS NEWS MARCH 29, 2020 / 10:32 AM / UPDATED 32 MINUTES AGO

WASHINGTON, March 29 (Reuters) - The top U.S. House of Representatives Republican said on Sunday that a fourth economic stimulus package to try to curb the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic would be premature and may not even be necessary.

“I’m not sure we need a fourth package,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told the Fox News program “Sunday Morning Futures,” noting he wants to see the first three packages totaling more than $2 trillion take effect first.

Illustrating the continuing tensions between the two parties in Congress, he added that he fears House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, would try to use a fourth package to insert a political wish-list of items.

The stimulus bill includes a tax break for the 1%

Opinion by Ed McCaffery

Updated 2:45 PM ET, Sat March 28, 2020

We face a frightening pandemic. More than 100,000 American have been infected with Covid-19, while tens of millions more continue to shelter at home. Meanwhile, the markets are crashing.

And yet the more things change, the more they stay the same.

While health care workers and local governments frantically race against the clock to keep up with the escalating medical caseloads while trying to keep themselves and their families safe, Congress was still able to find the time to give money away to rich people.

Thanks to a stunning new report from the New York Times, which has been relentless on the tax beat during the Trump administration, we've learned that a provision has been included in the 880-page coronavirus stimulus bill to help the very wealthy in a way that is breathtaking in its scope and detail.

It is worth taking a minute -- many of us have more of those now in our quarantined states -- to explain.

This is why I have been harping that they could have given everyone that paid taxes in 2018, 1 million dollars if they made less than a 1 million dollars to pay off mortgages, renter payments, student debut etc....... instead of the BS we are getting from our financial institutions instead of giving tax breaks to those that depreciate a fucking building as loss............................................................JFC

Exclusive: Amazon entices warehouse employees to grocery unit with higher pay

TECHNOLOGY NEWS MARCH 28, 2020 / 11:12 AM / UPDATED AN HOUR AGO

(Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc is offering higher pay to recruit its own warehouse employees to pick and pack Whole Foods groceries amid rising demand and a worker shortage, according to an internal document reviewed by Reuters.

This move, known as labor sharing, highlights how the ecommerce giant is reallocating some of its vast workforce to handle a spike in online sales of groceries, as millions of American are stuck at home amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Amazon offers online grocery services through Amazon Fresh from its own grocery warehouses, and Amazon Prime Now, which delivers from its Whole Foods stores.

“The Prime Now business has seen a mass increase in volume and is now offering labor share opportunities,” Amazon said in a message sent to warehouse workers in Maryland, which was reviewed by Reuters. Workers in other states where Amazon operates grocery services have received similar communications, including California, Nevada, and Tennessee.

Trump biographer rains hell on 'atrocious' right-wingers claiming old people

should die for the stock market

Published 5 mins ago on March 28, 2020By Matthew Chapman

On Saturday’s edition of MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” Pulitzer Prize-winning Trump biographer David Cay Johnston excoriated the Republicans who are suggesting older people should be willing to risk dying of COVID-19 for the sake of keeping the economy running.

“I’m going to go to you on this first the idea that people over 50 should be prepared to die — that is millions of people — should be prepared to die in order to keep the stock market buoyed and keep the economy humming in a country that is shut down because lots of people are dying,” said host Joy Reid. “As an economics guy, how do you strike it? Just the ethics are insane, bananarama crazy.”

“These are very religious people who worship the House of Mammon, and they have forgotten about the sanctity of human life,” said Johnston. “The size of this problem is enormous. I wrote a piece a week ago pointing out this last 18 months, which is the official position of the Trump administration, the minimum cost will be $5 trillion. If it lasts two years, as the German health officials say, we’re looking north of $7 trillion. Those are very conservative numbers.”

“The cost will be enormous, but what about human life? What has happened to respect for human life?” he continued. “It is atrocious to hear … Glenn Beck and the lieutenant governor of Texas, talking about their religiosity, to take these kinds of positions.”

11 coronavirus statements from team Trump that really didn't age well

By Josh Israel -March 27, 2020 4:30 PM

A rundown of the administration's questionable early claims about the COVID-19 pandemic.

Donald Trump and his administration spent the first several weeks of the current coronavirus crisis downplaying the problem and claiming that it might actually be good for the economy, among other things.

Their rosy predictions, unfortunately, have fallen flat.

The nationwide death toll from the virus has now passed 1,000. The United States now has more known COVID-19 cases than any other country, and unemployment claims are at a record high.

Here are some claims that aged particularly poorly.

-snip-

According to Thursday's weekly job numbers, 3.28 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week.

Back on Feb. 24, as the stock market started to tumble over coronavirus fears, Trump tweeted, "The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!"

Kudlow echoed this on on Feb. 28, telling Fox Business that investors should not "rule out" optimism. "Stocks look pretty cheap to me," he opined.

As of Friday morning, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 21,734, more than 4,000 points lower than when Kudlow first made his prediction.

Maybe Ludlow should put on a bigger ...........................
